🌿 Morning Drinks for a Happy Gut

A simple morning drink can help you hydrate and ease into your day. Here are a few options—and what to know about each:

🍋 Warm lemon water
Add a squeeze of lemon to a mug of warm water. The biggest benefit? Hydration! Warm or cool, choose whatever helps you drink it consistently.

🫚 Ginger tea
Steep a few thin slices of fresh ginger in hot water for 5–10 minutes. Ginger may help ease nausea for some people, and it makes a cozy start to the morning.

🍎 Apple c***r vinegar tonic
If you enjoy it, try 1 teaspoon mixed into a large glass of water—never straight. It isn’t a proven gut-health fix, and it can aggravate reflux, so skip it if it leaves you feeling worse.

🌱 Aloe vera juice
Sometimes marketed for digestive comfort, but evidence is limited and products vary. If you’re considering it, choose a purified, decolorized, food-grade product labeled aloin-free and check with your healthcare provider first. Avoid aloe latex, which can cause cramping and diarrhea.

Your gut doesn’t need all four—or an elaborate morning routine. Consistent hydration, fiber-rich foods, movement, and managing stress do more of the heavy lifting. 💕

Save this for morning inspiration! Which one do you enjoy?

🌿 4 Gut-Friendly Foods to Add to Your Plate

Your gut loves consistency—and a little variety. Here are four simple additions:

🥣 **Fermented foods:** Yogurt with live cultures, kefir, kimchi, and refrigerated sauerkraut can introduce beneficial microbes. Start small and see what agrees with you.

🫘 **Fiber-rich foods:** Beans, oats, berries, vegetables, nuts, and seeds help keep things moving, and certain fibers feed your beneficial gut bacteria. Increase gradually and drink enough water!

🫚 **Ginger:** A flavorful addition that may help ease nausea. Try fresh ginger in tea, stir-fries, soups, or smoothies.

🍲 **Bone broth:** A comforting way to add fluids and some protein. Use it as a soup base or sip a warm mug—just remember, it isn’t a proven fix for “leaky gut.”

You don’t need a perfect diet. Start with one addition you enjoy and build from there. 💕

Save this for your next grocery trip! 🛒

A nature break that resets your nervous system
When you’re stressed, your body responds. Your muscles tighten, your mind races, and your stress response can increase cortisol to help you handle the demand.

That response is useful. But when your day is one long string of demands—work, notifications, responsibilities—it can feel like you never get a chance to come down.

Spending time outside in nature may help give you that breathing room. And researchers have measured actual drops in cortisol—not just people saying they feel more relaxed.

You don’t need a forest retreat. Try a local park, a tree-lined path, or a quiet spot near some greenery.

Put your phone away. Sit or take an easy walk. Notice what you can see and hear without turning it into another task.

Start with ten minutes. If you have twenty to thirty, research suggests that’s a particularly useful window.

Think of it as a little recovery time between everything life asks of you.

💕💪🏼 **Strength & Support for Our Bend Community**

When someone asked me if I had any direct connections to the Silver Rail tragedy, I initially didn't think I did. But as the days unfolded, I realized just how small and connected our Bend community really is. 💔

I had the privilege of coaching 🏐 and personally training Megan Lambert and her mom. Megan had such a sweet spirit and determination, and knowing she went on to become a special education teacher makes perfect sense. 💕

Between my connection to Megan, my sister-in-law working for the father of one of the children who lost their life, and a dear friend and client who helps oversee special education programs throughout the Bend-La Pine School District, this tragedy has hit closer to home than I ever imagined.

I know I can't take away the heartbreak, but I want to give back in the way I know best. 💪🏼

**💕 Beginning October 26, inMotion is offering:**

💕 **FREE 14-day semi-private training** for teachers, school administrators, staff, and parents.

💪🏼 **DONATION-BASED 14-day training** for community members (normally $149), with donations supporting a verified fundraiser for affected families.

🗓️ We're also hoping to add a **4:15 PM session** for school employees and parents, along with openings in our existing sessions.

**💕 Introducing Move with Megan**

We're also establishing a fund in Megan's memory to help offset the cost of personal and semi-private training for teachers and school employees who could use extra support.

Megan dedicated her life to helping others, and I hope this is one small way to carry that spirit forward.

**For Megan. For our teachers. For the families. For our community.** 💕

💌 **DM me** to participate or help support this initiative, and please share with anyone who might benefit.

♥️ In Memory of Megan Lambert 💔
Client, Player and Friend....

I had the privilege of coaching and personally training Megan when she was younger, and I loved every minute of working with her. She had such a sweet spirit and determination. Although we hadn't seen each other in years, we stayed connected through Facebook, and I loved seeing her adventures and the life she was building.

Learning that she had become a special education teacher somehow brought everything full circle. Knowing Megan, it makes perfect sense that she chose a path helping others.

My heart breaks for her family and everyone affected by this tragedy.

I know there's nothing I can do to take away the pain, but I wanted to honor Megan in the way I know best.

Beginning the week of October 26, we're adding a **4:15 PM semi-private training session, FREE for the first two weeks for teachers and parents**, with a special discounted rate for those who wish to continue.

It's a small gesture, but I hope it gives someone a place to move, release some stress, connect, and feel supported.

**For Megan, her beautiful spirit, and our community.** 🤍

Please message me if you'd like to join us.

🤔 **Riddle Me This…**

What do pickleball, yoga, skiing, biking, walking, running, and golf all have in common?

**They aren't necessarily strength training!** 💪

Don't get me wrong—I LOVE that you're moving! But here's something I wish more people understood…

You can look fit, be incredibly active, and STILL be losing muscle, strength, and bone density. Even in your 40s!

Being active and being strong aren't always the same thing.

And as we get older, especially during perimenopause and menopause, that difference becomes even more important.

I recently met with a 40-year-old runner who had already been diagnosed with BOTH sarcopenia (muscle loss) and osteopenia (low bone density). She's lean, active, and looks incredibly fit.

It's a perfect example of why we can't judge muscle and bone health by appearance or activity level alone.

I broke this down in our latest blog, including why strength training matters for your metabolism, bones, joints, balance, and ability to keep doing the activities you love for decades to come.

Hormone balance is about SO much more than what you eat. 💗
Your hormones don’t operate in little individual boxes. They’re influenced by your sleep, stress, blood sugar, muscle, movement, circadian rhythm, nutrition, recovery, and even some of the things you’re exposed to every day.

That’s why I’m a big believer in looking at the whole picture instead of chasing one hormone or trying to “fix” everything with another supplement.

Some of the basics matter more than we give them credit for:
☀️ Get morning sunlight
🏋️♀️ Strength train
🥩 Prioritize protein + eat enough
🥑 Don’t be afraid of carbs or healthy fats
🚶♀️ Walk after meals
😴 Protect your sleep
🧘♀️ Work on stress + nervous system regulation
💧 Choose glass or stainless when you can
🧴 Reduce unnecessary fragrance, plastics and other potential endocrine-disrupting exposures

And NO—you do not need to throw away everything in your house, buy $47 organic laundry detergent made from Himalayan moon water, and overhaul your entire life by Tuesday. 😂
I know lists like this can actually make “healthy living” feel more overwhelming, not less.
That’s one of the reasons I created my Foundation Matrix—coming soon. 🙌

It’s designed to help you look at the big picture, figure out where your biggest gaps actually are, and start with the changes that will give you the most bang for your buck instead of trying to do ALL THE THINGS at once.

Because better hormone and metabolic health isn't about perfection.

Build the foundation. Find the gaps. Start there. 💗

You’ve probably heard the term “oxidative stress”… but what does it actually mean? And why should you care—especially after 40?

Think of oxidative stress a little like “internal rust.”

Your body naturally produces reactive oxygen species (ROS), often called free radicals, through completely normal things like breathing, digestion, exercise and producing energy.

That’s not necessarily bad.

The problem happens when you’re producing more free radicals than your antioxidant defenses can handle. That imbalance is oxidative stress.

And it can affect a LOT more than most people realize:
🧠 Brain health + brain fog
💪 Muscle function + recovery
⚡ Energy + mitochondrial function
❤️ Cardiovascular health
🔥 Inflammation
🍽️ Metabolic health + insulin sensitivity
🧬 Cellular aging
✨ Skin + visible aging

Here’s the part I really want people to understand:

The goal isn’t to eliminate oxidative stress.

Exercise actually creates some oxidative stress—and that temporary stress helps signal your body to adapt, improve its antioxidant defenses and become more resilient.
The issue is when the total load becomes too high and recovery can’t keep up.

Chronic stress, poor sleep, inadequate nutrition, blood sugar swings, environmental exposures and even training too hard without enough recovery can all add to that load.

And no, the answer isn’t simply buying a giant bottle of antioxidants. 😉

Strength training, daily movement, sleep, stress management, colorful whole foods, adequate protein and supporting your metabolic health all matter.

I went much deeper into what oxidative stress is, how it affects your mitochondria, muscle, metabolism and aging—and what you can actually do about it in my latest article.
