Laurel Highlands Titleholder Wrapup January 26 to 29, 2023.
64 teams (about 500+ players) competed for over $22,000 in prize money and national playoff spots over the past 3 days plus another 32 Shark-Fest teams competed this past Thursday and Friday for a other $4,800.
Top winners were the second seeded Boondocks 2 who took the top prize with a 3 to 2 win over 14th seeded Malcotti's Tuesday. And Boondocks 2 was very lucky to get to the final 4 on Saturday night. In the last game of the 5th match and last ball vs Mullys Crazy 8s, Dave Shaffer made a long, tough 8 ball to clinch the Sunday final 4 spot only to scratch in the corner. Boondocks took the 2nd chance they were handed and ran with it to the Cup. Congrats.
In the 2nd bracket, the ill fated Railhouse Tuesday who lost 2 members early on in the session, with the sudden passing of Vince Sweeney and Mark Charles, never changed their roster and played with the remaining 6 players to take the top spot in that bracket over Railhouse Rackrunners. It seemed like it was meant to happen.
The second chance winners was the Somerset Eagles team.
National playoff spot winners were:
Malcotti's Tuesday
Railhouse Thursday
Somerset Eagles.
Shark-Fest champs were
14 and under ...The Alley
16 and under.. The Termin8tors
Over 800 matches played there was only 13 flagged players and 0 disqualified. Thats about 1.5% of the matches!! Players always question handicaps but here is proof how close the caps are. So many matches went to the final game. Poolnet works.
A tip of the hat to the Band Hall Bi***es who had a great time and a great run. They missed the money by one match. I was rooting for you ladies. You other players should take a page from this team. Compete and have fun like the bi***es.
The event ran very smoothly and was pretty much on time with the usual late night matches dragging on a bit.
I would like to thank Matt Costello for running the Friday minis and to Ken Kuhns on his tables. Always top notch service.
10 ball break winners were Coby Christian and Matt Costello.
Sorry I couldn't get to the radar break contest. Tables were jammed up all weekend.
I would like to thank all of the LH TAP players for supporting the league and making our Titleholders, in my opinion, the premier Titleholder in TAP. I am 68 years old now and with over 90 of Titleholder and national playoff events under my belt, these are getting harder for me to pull off plus they are very stressful and hard on my body. But with about 2 solid weeks of preparation the results can be seen that everyone seems to enjoy them.
I asked one first time lady player, Rose from Rockys, what she thought and she loved it. And that's why I do it. Players that have been to this over the years get settled in and take these events for granted but its the first timers I enjoy to hear from the most. That makes it all worthwhile. To promote and expand the game we all love and to get the entire league together three times a year for competition and fellowship.
And dont forget, the previous weekend we had the MVP event with another $2,200 in cash, hoodies and plaques paid out. This was a great fall session!
So I am going to take a few days off to recover but make sure you get your Spring team rosters in by Wednesday. I will post schedules on Thursday and Friday and then we start the 14 week Spring session next week.
Thanks to all!!! TAP ON!!
PS...I will add to this post tomorrow the other money winners in each board after I get some sleep..🥱🥱
