Since 1998, Jeff Wagner—a longtime Montgomery County resident and former three-time All-Ivy League lacrosse player from Brown University—has been at the forefront of efforts to grow the sport within the region. Recognizing the challenges faced by less affluent communities, he has focused on creating opportunities for children who are often excluded from lacrosse due to the sport’s high startup costs and the scarcity of youth programs in their areas. For many families, the expense of essential equipment—helmets, sticks, gloves, and protective gear—can be prohibitive. Additionally, the lack of entry-level programs in these neighborhoods has historically left younger children with limited exposure to the sport. Through MOCO Lacrosse, Jeff Wagner and his partners are breaking down these barriers. By providing resources, equipment, and age-appropriate programming, they are ensuring that lacrosse becomes a sport for everyone. This initiative not only introduces kids to the fundamentals of the game but also instills values of perseverance, teamwork, and community engagement, paving the way for a more inclusive future in Montgomery County athletics.
