At the Y, we are committed to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to grow, connect and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. Today is the final day of 5 Days of Action, a week-long national campaign to increase awareness of child sexual abuse and empower and equip us all to prevent it.
We are encouraging parents and caretakers to take action by visiting one of our locations and signing a Five Days of Action Pledge Card. This is a a simple but powerful way to show support in raising awareness and preventing child sexual abuse in our community.

Emancipation Day. Today’s anniversary reminds us that freedom is not just a moment in history—it’s a commitment to carry forward daily.
In 1853, nearly a decade before the city’s official emancipation, Anthony Bowen founded the world’s first African American YMCA.
In the spirit of Anthony Bowen, the Y continues to serve as a safe place that helps everyone achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves.

For Women's History Month we're celebrating women of the Y like Addie Hunton, one of only three African American women assigned to serve over 200,000 segregated Black troops stationed in France as part of the YMCA’s massive World War I support effort.
We're also lifting up Janice Paton, the first woman to be named to the National YMCA Board of Directors in 1962. At the youthful age 26, she broke barriers and paved the way for women’s leadership across the Y movement!
