Honest, you're a grand old flag
You're a grand old flag
You're a high-flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave

Hello Camp Fans!

Only 30 more days until the counselors arrive and 31 for the campers! Who's excited?!?

Today's throwback Thursday explains the history of the camp, and our namesake.

Charles "Chuck" Campbell was one of many Lions members instrumental in our camps founding. According to Lions' historians Jerry and Doug, Mr. Campbell was a long time Elks Club member and had worked at the camp when the Elks ran the weeklong camp. Due to financial limitations it was decided by the Elks to end the camp in the 1960's.

Mr. Campbell approached the Billings Lions Club about assuming responsibility of the camp and continuing its legacy. In 1961 the Lions Club embraced the then called Handicapped Kids Camp, with Mr. Campbell taking the reign as Lions chairman of the camp for more than a decade. The first director was Inez Jamison, the director of the Montana Center for Handicapped Children at EMC, now MSUB, who served for 20+ years.

Mr. Campbell was instrumental in Lions throughout the state and district serving as President of the Billings Lions Club in 1966-1967, and as the first and only District Governor to be elected to office twice in 1972-1973 and 1973-1974.

Following his death in 1982, the Billings Lions Club honored Mr. Campbell's dedication and legacy by renaming the camp the "Charles Campbell Children's Camp". Because of his foresight and determination to continue the greatness of Camp, many lives have been affected for the past seven plus decades.

Dear Camp Family-

We are saddened to share the passing of Alyson Ball.

Alyson was a passionate supporter of Camp for many years, and opened many doors for us as the founder and president of the Bozeman Area Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), inviting Camp staff to present and highlight our program.

Alyson was also a staunch advocate for disability rights, encouraging the Montana Legislation to expand education to youth until age 21

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alyson's rock and supporter, her husband Kevin, and their amazing son Ondrej, and all those that have been impacted by her love, support, and advocacy.

Alysons memorial service will be Sunday, June 14th at 3 pm at the Bozeman United Methodist Church.
