October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to educate, recognize the signs of abuse, support survivors, and work toward preventing violence before it starts.
Helping Hands Against Violence has provided safety, shelter, and hope to survivors in the Gorge for nearly 50 years. Their emergency shelter and transitional housing can accommodate nine survivors and their children, and currently, they are sheltering 19 women and children. Their shelter is full, as it often is.
For many survivors, Helping Hands is a last resort when they have nowhere else to safely turn. That’s where community comes in. We can show up through our time, talents, resources, financial support, or simply by helping more people understand the work.
Financially, $50 supports a survivor for one night, $350 for a week, and $1,500 for a month. Every gift helps provide safety and support while survivors work toward building a life free from abuse. When you sign up for class, you can add a donation that will go directly to Helping Hands. If you wish to support this work and for your donation to be tax deductible, you can do so directly through the organization here.
Dress up as a female icon that represents strength to you (And yes, this could be YOU!) and join us to help raise awareness & funds for their important work in our community. Kelsey, the director of Helping Hands, will be at our Halloween Pop Up to answer questions & share ways to get involved. You can also reach Kelsey anytime at [email protected].
