East Middle seventh grader Hope Szymaniak concluded her brilliant first season of outdoor track on Saturday, June 22, at the New Balance National Track and Field Championships in Philadelphia. Competing in the middle school division of the 800 meters at historic Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus, Hope finished second in her section in 2 minutes 24.93 seconds, a personal best by almost three seconds. Other highlights of Hope's season included clocking 5 minutes 11.94 seconds for 1500 meters, in which she finished sixth in the Section IV state qualifier, and teaming with fellow 7th grader Gemma Dinunzio-Welch, freshman Adrienne Mitrus and junior Eva Dinunzio-Welch to capture first place in the prestigious Dr. Robert Welch Distance Medley event at the Chenango Forks Rotary Relays. Hope's 800 and 1500 meter times were the best in Section IV this season by a 7th grader, and among the best in New York State!
Way to go, Hope! πββοΈπππββοΈ
