Happy 2022 y’all!

It’s been 2 years of pandemic, isolation, and huge life changes for all of us and unfortunately it’s not over yet. So here is a reminder to be kind to yourself and listen to what your body needs.

This is one of my favorite feel-good mermaid variations when my back needs extra love. It also has an overall calming effect on my nervous system, so if you’re feeling extra tight or anxious give this a try.

No reformer? Try it with a foam roller!

One of my favorite hamstring burning stabilization exercises 🙌🏻

Tips: 😉
✨ Think about the standing heel rolling in slightly to the midline of your body as you lift the free leg to help with stability
✨ Press your arms actively into the mat to help keep the elevation in your pelvis
✨ Try it with flexed feet and with pointed feet to see which feels more stable for you

Goals:
⭐️ Hip bones level & pressed to ceiling
⭐️ Minimal rocking/wiggling in your pelvis
⭐️ Keep both legs fully extended
⭐️ Work towards floating your arms up to the ceiling as you lift your leg

Happy New Year everyone! I am thrilled to announce I have finally recovered from being sick and will resume Sunday Pilates mat classes at 11:15AM EST on zoom every week. Classes are on a sliding scale of $10-$35 depending on your financial situation. Wednesday morning group classes are suspended until further notice, but a new weekday class may be added in February if there is enough interest. Looking forward to reconnecting with all of you! For those who don’t know, quarantine has caused quite a shift in my professional life. This year I started my own Pilates business, Kara Hestevold Pilates + More, LLC, and my passion for rehabilitative Pilates along with my own experience with injury have led me to pursue Physical Therapy. As we approach the final weeks of 2020, I am studying for my final exams as I complete my first semester of prerequisite coursework online so that I can apply to Doctor of Physical Therapy programs. I have quite a journey ahead of me, but I’m so excited for this adventure and have been fully embracing my inner nerd these past months. It’s been an incredibly stressful year (for everyone) and I’m so grateful for my loving family and friends, inspiring mentors, and dedicated clients who have supported me and helped me navigate this process.

No apparatus? No problem 😉 Try this Kneeling Cat variation on the mat!

What to look for:
⭐️ Hips in line over knees, resist the urge to sit back towards your heels
⭐️ Shoulders shrugged down away from your ears
⭐️ Sequential movement through your spine (articulate through your back rather than moving it as one chunk)

✨Prop tip:
Try putting a yoga block, squishy ball, or pillow between your thighs to remind your adductors to support you through the movement
