Went and ran 11+ miles on the glide iSUP with some stellar dudes this weekend. 10/10, Definitely recommend.
Working with youth and young at heart to teach them fly fishing. The only thing required, is a smile

New (to me) way to keel a Kreelex.
I was watching some Fly Fish Food videos and Cheech inspired me, again.
Henceforth, it shall be knows as, “The Keeler Kreelex”

Let me tell ya a story….
Took the Glide iSUP out on the salt water and found myself in a narrow canal full of docks.
Black Drum starts circling under my paddleboard, so I started dipping my Clouser in the water in front of it to see if it would eat. After the 5th pass or so, I saw it eat and set into it! Didn’t even have fly line out of the tip top.
It took me on a ride for about 5 minutes, and a few hundred feet from where the canal opened back up he was running my line against a bunch of barnacles, so I horsed him out, he sprinted for open water and….. the photo tells ya how it ended.
Snuck in a ‘very’ short video right before his last big run.
lol. I love this sport.

That’s a wrap!
2026 Birmingham Mayfly Project season had its final outting today! The kids did amazing, the mentors were top notch straight through the end and it was heart warming to hear everyone share their favorite moments throughout the 2026 season.
Thanks to everyone who supported it directly and indirectly, these kids were blessed because of your graciousness.

Twas a chilly morning
But Preston Etheredge didn’t let that stop him! We ran around on some Glide iSUP’s and wrecked shop after a slow morning.
Thanks for being adventurous and a PRO with the netting skills my friend!

Had a great night at community night yesterday!
Thank you to everyone who came out! Flies got tied, stories got told, we even had a Mayfly parent come out!!!
I’ve been blessed to lead this for almost 5 years now, but I need to step away for a while. That said, some of the crew is gonna lead it in my stead, so, more to come!!!

Tomorrow is Community Night!
Tying and community night is tomorrow, 3/26/26 at Cahaba Brewing Company!
This will be the last one for the foreseeable future. It’s been a fun ride for a long time now, but life has become super busy.
Gonna take some time to focus on a few other priorities, but I’m still around! Mayfly, OARS, Skillz and Gills, CfR and several events this year are all still a go.
I appreciate everyone who attended and hope that it gave you a chance to be in community together and hopefully learn a thing or two along the way. I know it certainly offered both to me.
Gonna do the S1B. Fits the time of year and Wade Blevins taught me this himself the first time I ever got to learn from another fisherman.
Heck, it’s even still our mascot (see photo)! lol.
Anywho, here’s the detail if you wanna come out.
Where:
Cahaba Brewing Company
4500 5th Avenue South
Birmingham, Al 35222
We’ll have a designated section, that will be marked by a sign with “Oka Uba Fly Tying” on it.
When? March 26th 6-8pm (and then later if you’d like)
What? Fly tying, community, food & drinks for purchase from The Current At Cahaba
Who? The best fishing community I know of.
Do you have to be a fly fisher? Nope, just come on out and hang out.
Do you have to be a fly ty-ist. Nope. We’ll even bring the vises, materials and will be teaching if you wanna try it out for your first time.
What are we tying? It’s Sam’s One Bug season, y’all!
Are kiddos welcome? Yep! As well as the whole family.
Come on out and be in community. Tying isn’t mandatory to join, it’s really all about community, just show up and bring a smile.
