Would you stop to see the World’s Largest Pickleball? A public art installation could potentially get that recognition in Toledo Ohio.
The 8foot sculpture was unveiled this morning at Toledo Pickle and Metroparks. Before you ask — the world’s largest Pickleball paddle is 8 hours away in Des Moines Iowa at Smash Park — we’d need the Jolly Green Giant in Minnesota to actually play with these creations. I love ‘Roadside Attractions and would go out of my way to see both of these homages to Pickleball. Access to the sculpture at Toledo Pickle is free however once you see their cool set up I’m 100% sure you’re going to want to stay and play. Toledo Pickle

Another indoor Pickleball facility just went paddles up and this one has its club contents on the auction block.

Premier Pickleball Club in Knoxville permanently closed this summer due to insurmountable financial strains.  The facility ceased operations and is clearing its inventory through an absolute liquidation auction handled by Furrow Auction Company which started today. The auction includes everything from old Pickleballs to leaf blowers and chairs. Premiere  faced severe revenue hurdles as well as Market Competition: In Knoxville there are around 20 indoor pickleball facilities a mix of both public run or private companies.

In that area the market experienced a rapid influx of alternative dedicated facilities with more courts premiere only had 6 — I hate to see clubs close but as with any industry these facilities need to remain competitive, spot trends in player behavior and perhaps reevaluate their overhead — ‘Do we really need to spend money on expensive barstools or can we get away with benches?’

I don’t own a PB facility nor have I run one, but I do see problems in membership fee tiers, nickel and diming members for open play or leagues, and providing enough value to spend $100 to $300 (depending on family plans) a month when there are free courts everywhere? Are facilities closing in your area or does your city have a big enough population to sustain multiple clubs?

You never know who you’re gonna meet on the courts …
