She was offered the Athletic Director job at Concordia College.

She said no.

For over a year, she told people it was because her youngest wasn’t in kindergarten yet. Because the job was heavily fundraising-based. Because her strength was with coaches and students, not donors.

Those were the reasons she said out loud.

But that’s not why she didn’t take it.

Her son wrote her a letter the morning she was deciding whether to take the AD job at Concordia College.

“Dear Mom — you should take the AD job. Love, Tyden.”

She was about to make a decision that would reshape her family’s daily life. That her kids would grow up at work with her.

That she’d miss games. That she’d forget them at the rink once or twice (her words, not ours — “use your skills and get home”).
