Join Eileen and Steve Miller for the Passport to the Arts Open Studio Tour this Saturday!
Eileen’s nature based oil paintings capture the movement of color in island vistas, ocean swirls and the everyday beauty of the island she feels lucky to call home. Her images appear to dance across the canvas, flowing as naturally as the ocean, all while utilizing the varied properties of oil paint.
Steve’s incredible photography brings the viewer right into the island landscape, whether it be windswept dunes at sunrise, or a dazzling play of light on the clouds at dusk. One can take a trip to Block Island while viewing his work, no ferry ticket necessary.

Join MarMar on the patio of MarMar Boutique on Sunday, September 20th from 12-2 for a metalsmithing tool “touch and talk” during the Passport to the Arts Open Studio Tour. Explore different tools, instruments and materials used to create jewelry and small scale sculpture, watch a demo of chasing and repoussé and anticlastic forming, and view some of MarMar’s past work.
Martha Andrew, aka MarMar, has been a creator since childhood. MarMar studied Jewelry and Metalsmithing at University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Upon graduation, she opened her Block Island based boutique on a whim the week before the Fourth of July. Eighteen years and three location changes later, she now represents 60 different artists every season and has become an essential shopping destination for hand crafted jewelry and accessories on the island.

Passport to The Arts Open Studio Tours will include a two-for one location! Don’t miss this stop!
Island Fiber Arts will be sharing the process of using fiber and other repurposed materials for spinning, felting, weaving, knitting, crochet, needlepoint and embroidery. Year round resident and owner Sue Brown Black has been a lifetime fiber artist and excited to share the studio she has built with the community.

Island Fiber Arts shares its studio with quilt and clothing maker Michel Rosenthal who arrived on the island from Chicago last November for her first winter. She created some beautiful art and taught the Artists Way by Juila Cameron to a small group of residents.

Please park on Center Rd near the airport and follow the butterflies along the horse fence to our studio at 1555 Center Rd. There will be designated parking for people who cannot walk 750 ft.

Note: there are no facilities at our studio so please use the airport bathroom.

John Warfel has been working with clay on and off since the early 70’s. He was introduced to pottery while at SUNY Oswego and was fortunate to have some very dynamic and talented teachers in both industrial and art ceramics. His early work was all functional stoneware, later transitioning to porcelain. Now all of his work is low fired and includes terra-cotta, Raku, and pit-fired pieces.

Living on Block Island year round since 1981 has shaped him as an artist, bringing a subtler and more organic feel to his work. The colors and textures of winter can be found in his pit-fired work while Raku is more spontaneous and bright like the vivid colors of a clear winter’s day. His forms evolve from what I see in nature; the erosion of a bank that exposes the stratifications of the soil, the wind blown weathering of all that’s around me, the texture and color of seaweed and driftwood washed up on the shore, and the various colors and images of the changing seasons. The winter brings long quiet hours of contentment in my his studio while working with wood and clay as the wood stove warms his space.

Crugie (born Christopher Riccio) spent three decades as a working musician: fronting the Hoboken band Cycomotogoat through the H.O.R.D.E. festival years, co-writing on John Popper's solo album Zygote, and co-starring in Cory McAbee's cult film Stingray Sam. He's now half of the recording duo Super User Friendly, whose 2021 album Señor Gato drew comparisons to Zappa and the Flaming Lips. On Block Island, that same restless eye turns to found materials — vintage maps, salvaged wood, rusted iron dragged off Junk Beach reworked into creatures that seem to emerge from their own wreckage. His Rymd Duva characters, quietly bequeathed to select establishments across the island, have become its own version of garden gnomes.

Meet artist Mary Jameson and watch a demonstration of her process at the Passport to the Arts Open Studio Tours On Sept 19th from 11-2 at The Parlor, upstairs at 30 Water Street (above the post office). Mary is a Rhode Island–based artist and the owner of Saltwater Studio in Newport. Her practice bridges printmaking and organic material exploration, drawing inspiration from marine environments and the intricate forms of marine algae. Working with foraged seaweed and other coastal materials, she studies their textures, patterns, and structures, transforming them through layering, pressing, and print-based processes into compositions that move between documentation and abstraction.
