NEAT stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. It accounts for all of the activity or energy expenditure during our waking hours, excluding our intentional workouts. We may squeeze in an hour, give or take, at the gym, but that leaves a lot of extra opportunities to be active in between when we wake up and end our day.
Here are some ideas for how to spend some of that time:
Take walks! This is a great opportunity to multitask. You can be on a call or listen to a podcast and get a great burst of energy from taking a walk around the neighborhood.
Park as far away from the store entrance as you can. Seriously. As far as you can. And then do that every time. It adds up!
Each time you take a trip up the stairs, do an extra one! That will double the stairs you climb each day.
These are 5 foods that are rich in protein and great to add to your diet! The plus? They’re all commonly used in our nutrition programs! Eating healthy doesn't have to be complicated! Let our registered dietitian Haley help you reach your goals and feel your best.

Meet Sandra, our newest addition to the D*FIT training team. A nature lover, motivator, and fluid is what we would use to describe her. Sandra specializes in functional training. She says, “I want people to be able to move freely with no pain and explore their potential. A lot of my clients say ‘Oh I cant do this, I’m not strong enough’ and then they surprise themselves.”
She loves to incorporate core training into her workouts with clients. “For me, it’s the foundation of every movement,” she says. “You have to use your core to do any kind of movement. Walking, sitting, it’s essential.” She believes that you just have to move to get started but that you should enjoy what you’re doing. “Finding something that you enjoy doing is essential to staying consistent. Once you've learned and start seeing any kind of results, people get encouraged and continue.”
And for her, it’s the clients that keep her going day after day. “Hearing my clients tell me that they feel stronger or that they can do something they couldn't before keeps me going. It’s inspiring. What we’re doing is worth it and I’m having a positive impact on clients.”

Louie joined D*FIT in 2016, eager to learn all parts of D*FIT. Moving from Front Desk Team Lead to building his way up to Personal Trainer & Group Instructor. Louie’s goal for each class or training session he leads is to make it as fun as possible. If you have taken a class with Louie, you will definitely feel all the fun feels plus Louie’s curated playlist will have you singing and shaking all while working out…. “Make every workout matter for that day. You wanna make it interesting and fun for yourself. Challenge yourself but do it safely!”
Louie’s drive to be better each and everyday and his work ethic has made him a very important part of Team d*. Louie’s appreciation for the D*FIT community shines so bright in each and everyone of his classes or training sessions. He says, “Every time I walk in the door, I feel like I’m walking in the door of the house of my second family. I have the potential to change peoples lives. The guidance of D and Becky and the support to always be myself. I never get put in a box that I have to be a certain way.”
Louie is also a teacher full time along with balancing his responsibilities at D*FIT. A fun fact about him is that he can do “a mean toe touch” and is a gold medalist in Taekwondo. He’s inspired daily by our clients. He says, “For the clients, being able to come once a week is hard let alone every day. I don't know how they are able to balance it. I’m inspired by the people that want to better themselves. All I want to do is act as a guide for them.”
