Sensei Brian Hug is the head coach of the Twin Cities Judo Club and has been involved in Judo for decades—as a competitor, coach, and mentor. A former state and national champion who has competed against Olympic and national-level athletes, Brian brings deep experience and a genuine passion for teaching. He has worked with students ranging from young children to older adults, including athletes with visual impairments and physical limitations, and is supported by experienced assistant coaches who share his commitment to quality instruction.

Judo is an Olympic sport that originated in Japan and focuses on balance, movement, and mutual respect. Rather than strikes or kicks, Judo teaches students how to safely off-balance an opponent, execute throws, control on the ground, and—at advanced levels—apply submissions. Training emphasizes self-control, confidence, coordination, strength, and respect for training partners. Safety and mutual benefit are central to every class, and while competition is available, it is never required to advance.

The Twin Cities Judo Club welcomes students of all ages and experience levels—no prior martial arts background needed. Judo is especially beneficial for kids, athletes from wrestling or BJJ backgrounds, and anyone looking to improve balance, confidence, and physical awareness in a respectful, structured environment. If you’re curious, interested, or just want to watch a class, we invite you to come check it out and see if Judo is right for you! Train with Sensei on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Band of Brothers Martial Arts Gym!

🎉Happy 2026!🎉

Our January schedule is here! 📅 Take a look at the weekly class lineup* and start planning your training for the month ahead.

If you’ve been thinking about trying a different class or adding something new to your routine, January is a great time to jump in. Cross-training in other martial arts can offer a fresh perspective on movement, strategy, and training styles, while also giving insight into the culture and history behind each art. Exposure to different disciplines can sharpen your fundamentals, build adaptability, and deepen your overall understanding as a martial artist. Stay tuned for announcements on new class offerings (did someone say sparring opportunities?) and upcoming seminars!

We’re excited to kick off the new month and look forward to training with all of you on the mats. Let’s make January a strong one!

See you in class,
The Band of Brothers Martial Arts Community
