Serving!!! Let’s talk about it ⬇️

There’s lot of different types of serves, approaches and philosophies but let’s get into the main categories!

1. The standing float. A classic. The goal is to get as much movement out of the ball as possible with as LITTLE spin as possible. Easy to repeat but we want to replace this with a jump float as we progress to play higher above the net!

2. One handed jump float- contacting higher above the net, arm is loaded for power, using approach as momentum. Lurv to see it

3. Two hand jump float - also perfectly acceptable. Typically not for as much power but consistent, floaty, spot serving!

4. Top spin!! A flashy jump serve forsure but let’s get into the details! The top spin when done correctly should be a fast paced serve that drops in front of passers quickly. We see this in the men’s game a lot, but not in the women’s game…why? It can be tough to rip a serve at 45+ mph over and over in order for it to be effective. If it’s too slow for the level you are at, it actually ends up being an easier serve to pass since it has one line and it’s pretty easy to tell where the ball is going. It can also take a toll on shoulders and backs over time if over used or done incorrectly! That being said, if you got it and it’s working - more power to you!

5. ✨Hybrids ✨ also not talked about a ton in the womens game and can be really hard to master! The idea is you sell a jump float and top spin it or you sell a top spin and try to float it. Not the easiest but fun to mess around with! It’s seen on the mens side a lot more often if you want to go look up some inspo 💁‍♀️ (we ran out of filming time 🫠)

Give them all a try and let us know which one you prefer!!!

Book your next lesson with us to work on these serves and to be a threat from the end line!
