The Lady Tankers came to race!

Boardman Lady Tankers Place 4th overall at the CCS Christmas Invitational at CT Branin Natatorium

Alex Taylor wins the 100 Backstroke and Sets New Boardman Mark.

On December 20th, 34 Spartan athletes competed in the 21st annual Christmas Invitational Meet held at Canton McKinley’s C.T. Branin Natatorium. Close to 50 teams and 600 swimmers from all across the state were in attendance at this championship formatted meet set with prelims and finals. The Lady Tankers placed 4th overall behind Mason, North Canton Hoover, and Cincinnati St Ursula Academy. Junior Alex Taylor won the 100 Backstroke with a new BHS Record time of :57.35.

“Alex had a few good swims in the morning to qualify for finals. She was in the right mindset for the Backstroke and finished in record time. Alex was also runner up in the 100 Free with a time of :53.02. This is a great middle-of-the-season championship meet that brings state level talent from across the state. Our kids matched up well, and we were very proud with how they competed,” said coach Carlo Cordon. “It’s a long day with the bus leaving at 5:15AM for the qualifying round of morning swims. If they swim fast enough, they swim again at night. Our kids had a great morning and we had quite a few make it back for Finals including Sophomore Rachel DunLany placed 8th in the 200 Free (2:01.60) and 7th in the 100 Back (1:02.59), Senior Aly Murray placed 16th in the 100 Free (:57.19) and 8th in the 100 Back (1:02.98), Senior Julia Pickens placed 8th in the 100 Fly (1:03.23), and 24th in the 100 Free (:59..78), Sophomore Cora Taylor placed 22nd in the 100 Fly (1:05.90), Junior Ella Miller placed 11th in the 100 Fly (1:02.73), and Junior Emma Chunn placed 13th in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:12.48.

“One of our goals was to get all three of our relays back to finals and we were successful with our swims. They were fun to watch! Our Medley Relay team of Aly Murray, Jillian Palusak, Ella Miller, and Alex Taylor placed 5th overall with a time of 1:53.62. Our 200 Free Relay with Rachel DunLany, Julia Pickens, Cora Taylor, and Ella Miller placed 2nd overall with a time of 1:41.77, and the 400 Free Relay with Rachel DunLany, Ella Miller, Aly Murray, and Alex Taylor placed 4th overall with a time of 3:44.67.

The Lady Tankers are back in the water with a Tri-Meet vs Solon and Akron Firestone on December 27th at Akron Firestone High School with a start time of 9AM.

Spartans came to race!

Boardman Spartan Swimmers place 5th at the CCS Christmas Invitational at CT Branin Natatorium

Zac Mihok wins the 200 Free

On December 20th, the Spartan swimmers competed in the 21st annual Christmas Invitational Meet held at Canton McKinley’s C.T. Branin Natatorium. Close to 50 teams and 600 swimmers were represented from across the state for this championship formatted meet set with prelims and finals. Junior Zac Mihok won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:46.07 and placed 4th in the 100 Back (53.74). “Zac is a racer and the epitome of a self-motivated athlete. He never skips a set, a rep, a bench, etc. All of his accolades are earned, and he is modest about his success. His win in the 200 Free was well deserved,” stated Coach Cordon.

We enjoy swimming teams such as St. Xavier, North Canton Hoover, Mason, and Jackson. Our boys like to see how we match up against them and we were very proud with how they competed,” said coach Carlo Cordon.
Other Spartans that placed top 24 included Freshman Sam Pickens who placed 15th in the 200 IM (2:15.00) and 6th in the 100 Breast (1:04.09), Junior Dominic White 16th in the 200 IM (2:15.86) and 23rd in the 100 Free (52.69), Sophomore Carter Yocum 20th in the 100 Back (1:02.27), Senior Samuel DiStefano who placed 15th in the 100 fly (57.28), Lee Arent, who placed 29th in the 100 Fly (58.41), and Jack Benson who placed 21st in the 100 Free (51.86).

The Spartans moved along two relay to finals with the 200 Free Relay that placed 4th overall with a time of 1:31.98 (Mihok, Lee Arent, Dominic White, and Jack Benson), and the 400 Relay that placed 6th overall with a time of 3:24.07 with Sam DiStefano, Dom White, Jack Benson, and Zac Mihok.
