The Y being closed for annual maintenance opened up an opportunity for me to do some home visits for previous families. I think we had some fun! Back to a sparkling clean YMCA pool on Tuesday!

When that current pushes you too close to the camera 🤣. Way to go buddy!

Just under two weeks into his transition to swim session and look what this little guy can already do!

One of the most important skills my little swimmers attain within their first week of lessons with me is the ability to come off the wall as though they fell in close to it but not facing it and turn their body independently to grab the wall and support themselves.

This is a common way a child will end up in the pool and from a week in, your child will already have attained one lifesaving skill.

This little guy also learned to swim independently from a short distance and secure himself at the wall.

When it comes to the water, we don’t really have time to waste- let’s get your kiddos able to swim and self-rescue before they accidentally enter the water unskilled.

He turned 4 this month and was able to swim and float an entire pool without issue during our recent mini-refresher.

ISR sets up students for their bodies to understand buoyancy, propulsion, rotation, and to have a lifelong understanding of how their body works in the water.

In just 5 little lessons together, this little 20 month old dude can already swim independently with awesome kicks to the wall, the steps, or my hand. He can also completely turn himself back to the wall if “falling in” facing away from it, all on his own.

These are two important skills a child can learn early on in lessons that make them safer in the water.

If your child is in lessons and is not able to do this on their own, you might want to consider other lessons. If your child uses a floatie to swim- it’s time to ditch the floatie and get independent skills.
