Sometimes someone else’s faith makes me feel worse about mine.

They pray differently. They seem more disciplined. More peaceful. Further along.

And sometimes comparison goes the other direction—I look at somebody else and quietly feel pretty good about myself.

Different feeling. Same problem.

I’m using somebody else’s life to tell me how I’m doing with God.

When Peter started looking sideways at John, Jesus gave him an incredibly simple answer:

“What is that to you? You follow me.”

Maybe that’s the word some of us need today.

Stop looking sideways. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Walk the road He actually gave you.

Have you ever heard someone say, “God told me…” and quietly wondered why that doesn’t seem to happen to you?

You’re not a second-class Christian because you’ve never heard a voice from heaven.

Maybe hearing God has less to do with receiving dramatic messages and more to do with recognizing the Shepherd. Stay close. Know His Word. Learn His character. Follow what He’s already made clear.

You don’t have to manufacture an experience to know that God is near.

I'm a pastor, and there have been long stretches where I barely read my Bible.

Sometimes it felt like a job. Sometimes I was avoiding what I knew I'd find in there. If you feel guilty about this, I'm not here to pile on, because guilt is a terrible reason to open it. We've been handed the Bible as a duty, a box to check, and nobody falls in love with an assignment. But on the road to Emmaus, two disciples saw Jesus in the Scriptures and their hearts burned. It was never just a textbook, but God's Word, given so we can know him. Stop reading for a grade. Start reading to know him.

The first few set the tone. Don't give them to the noise. New every weekday.

Not tired of Jesus, tired of trying so hard to be good at following him. Tired of fighting the same stuff I fought a year ago. If faith has started feeling like a job you can never do well enough, hear this: Jesus offered rest, not a clipboard. He didn't save you by grace and then say "don't screw this up." There's a difference between obedience that grows out of walking with him and effort to keep God from being disappointed in you. One changes you. The other just wears you out.

Discontent has a way of making one missing thing feel bigger than everything God has already given us. The serpent didn’t have to take the garden away—he just had to make one tree bigger than everything around it.

So what’s your “one tree” right now? The thing you’ve been staring at so long that it’s becoming harder to see the rest of God’s goodness?

Maybe today it’s time to lift your eyes and count the garden.

Your sadness isn't always a sign something's wrong with you. Sometimes it means you know something's wrong with the world.

We treat sorrow like a defect to outrun. But Ecclesiastes 3:11 says God set eternity in your heart. You feel the ache between what is and what should be, you love people you can't keep, you say goodbye when something in you screams you weren't made for goodbye. That's grief. And even Jesus wept at a grave he was minutes from emptying. Your sorrow might just be a longing for home. And in Jesus, home is coming.
