Awesome event sponsored by Awesome people!!
"Initiative," that is how Commander Leonard Ouzts says a recent fundraiser to benefit the Boiling Springs High School NJROTC came about.
"Cadet Shumaker approached his dad about it and brought the idea back to us."
Phil Shumaker owns Legacy Auto Detail LLC - Specialty Detailing & Ceramic Coating.
"Our mission with our 'Car Meets for a Cause' is to partner with other local businesses to make an impact in the community," said Schumaker. "Our son PJ asked us to sponsor NJROTC. We talked about it with Commander Ouzts, and we thought this was a chance to make an impact."
The recent fundraiser was also used as an opportunity for the the NJROTC and other volunteers to take part in a community service project, alongside Keep OneSpartanburg Beautiful, to pick up garbage along Hwy 9. The group collected almost 600lbs of trash!
"If we do things the right way in NJROTC, people will support us like we support them," Ouzts said.
The Shumaker Family recently presented the BSHS Cadets with a check for $4,000, and encouraged other local businesses to find ways to give back.
"We're blessed to be able to offer our services in such an awesome community, so I would encourage them to really plug in to the community."

Cadets designed and implemented their Competition Field Day program. They strategically placed (22) stations around the campus . The cadets created a Draft of the cadets into squads and they based their team on cadet known strengths and weaknesses.
The cadets were given a map and a compass. They had to find each station and check in with the proctor. Each proctor ( Senior Cadet) was responsible for signing off on that particular station and then conducting various exercises, here is a small sample size of what they had to do
1. Shoot on the rifle range (MSgt Epps)
2. 40 yard sprints
3. Burpees
4. Jumping Jacks
5. Push Ups
6. Armed Squad Drill performance
7. Orders to the Sentry
8. Chain of Command
Of course itβs a timed event.
The cadets have gotten pretty good at using a map and compass. We will participate in more Orienteering competitions in the future.
And the Principal is providing lunch for the cadets and thanking them for all the hard work they do around the campus.
Building this program brick by brick!!!
