Owl bet you didn’t know today is International Owl Awareness Day!🤭🦉
To celebrate, we want you to meet the Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), a remarkable raptor that can be seen soaring over the open landscapes at Lucky Peak.
Unlike many owls, Short-eared Owls are often active during the day, especially around dawn and dusk. With bright yellow eyes, a rounded facial disk, and a graceful flight, these hunters are perfectly adapted for life in Idaho’s grasslands and shrub-steppe habitats.
But even these skilled predators face challenges, including habitat loss, fragmentation, and disturbance as landscapes change. Located near the Boise metro area, our pak provides an important protected area where people and wildlife share the same space.
The next time you visit the park, keep an eye on the horizon as you might spot a Short-eared Owl flying silently overhead. By protecting Idaho’s natural resources, we help ensure these incredible birds continue to thrive.

Happy World Ranger Day! 🤎🌲
Today, we’re celebrating the dedicated park rangers who help make Lucky Peak a special place. From connecting visitors to the park through programs like wreath making and nature talks to maintaining park facilities, their work makes a lasting impact every day.
We are incredibly grateful for everything they do. Lucky Peak wouldn’t be the same without our team.❤️
A special thank you to our park management, Surat and Bri, who began their careers as park rangers, and to our full time rangers, Jeff and Nels, for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to Lucky Peak and its visitors.
