When I first mitered the nose on my SUP builds it was a bit tricky to figure out how to clamp the strips. Temporary clamping blocks hot glued to the strips made all the differece.

8lbs! After strip-planking most of the rails and all of the deck, this video demonstrates the process of cutting this 14’ x 34” Cascade performance touring paddleboard free from the assembly table. While flipping the board I weighed it, and never cease to be amazed by the properties of Paulownia. So strong and so light! You simply can’t achieve a stronger, lighter hollow, wood board using any other material.
The key to achieving snug fitting strips for your hollow, wood surfboard or paddleboard homebuild project is the rolling bevel. These steps demonstrate from rough shape to epoxy glue-up and clamping, how strong and light strip-planked boards are created.
Scarfing two long thin strips together with a shallow bevel at a 12:1 ratio, length to thickness, forms a high load bearing bond. Ideal for rail sections on hollow, wood surfboards and paddleboards in the 12’ to 18’ range.

“In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. . . How do you measure a year in the life?”
Reading the late Dr Wallace J Nichols book, “The Blue Mind”, we learn the science behind why we are happier, healthier, more connected, and better at what we do when we are near, on, in and under the water.
I know, I am preaching to the choir. But, yesterday, I attended the “seminary”.
