This week, we mourn the passing of David Roberts, acclaimed climber, adventurer, friend, and author. His legacy is one that has touched countless lives. Our program was fortunate to host David Roberts back in March 2016 at our local screening of the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival here in Boone, NC. He held book signings of Alone on the Wall, a book he co-authored with Alex Honnold and spoke on some of his amazing adventures across the globe. Thank you David for your humility, spirit of adventure, grit, smile, kindness, and words. You will be missed. For us, this photo captures the spirt of his visit to Boone some 5 years ago.....

Did you know many programs and organizations are doing what they can to break down barriers to support and celebrate women in the outdoors!

March is Women’s History Month, so this month we are going to celebrate women and genderqueer people in the outdoors. Let’s kick off by acknowledging just a few of the women empowering justice in the outdoors.

● Rue Mapp, Founder and CEO of Outdoor Afro: a “network that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature.”

● Shelma Jun, Founder of Flash Foxy and the Women’s Climbing Festival: a space to
celebrate women, where women can “feel inspired by and connected to each other.”

● Teresa Baker, Founder of The Outdoor CEO Diversity Pledge and the African American National Parks Event:
