Tennessee has made history by becoming the first U.S. state to make gun safety education required in schools. Starting from the 2025–2026 school year, all public and charter schools must teach students about firearm safety every year. These lessons will begin from a very young age, even from kindergarten.

The law was passed in 2024. Its goal is to help children understand what guns are, how to stay away from them, and what to do if they see one. Students will be taught not to touch a gun and to inform a trusted adult immediately. The lessons are planned based on the age of the children, so they are simple, safe, and easy to understand.

This decision has started a big discussion across the country. Some people support it and say teaching safety early can protect children, especially in homes where guns are present. Others believe it puts too much pressure on children and does not solve the bigger issue of gun violence.

Right now, Tennessee is the only state with this rule, but other states like Utah are thinking about doing the same. It shows a growing focus on safety education in schools.
