I’m extremely thankful that Venessa Fraser(), a runner from the Bowerman Track Club(), took some time to answer some questions about her life as a pro runner. Here’s how that conversation went:
————————————————
Why did you start running?
I started running in 3rd grade with Girls on the Run. I truly fell in love with of running and the process of trying to get better every day.
————————————————
What’s your favorite nonrunning sport to play?
Skiing! (but I can’t do that as long as I am a competitive runner due to injury risk.) I enjoy playing tennis and golf once in a while just for fun.
————————————————
What are some challenges you have had to face in your running career, and how did you deal with them?
Injuries are probably the hardest part of the sport. I have been pretty healthy in my career but have definitely had some setbacks; I’ve just tried to remind myself to remain positive and patient.
————————————————
What’s the most memorable race you have ever been a part of?
I was a part of Shelby Houlihan’s outdoor American Record 5K (14:34) race in Heusden, Belgium. It was my first summer racing in Europe straight out of college and it was so exciting just to be in that race. I also ran a 5K personal best at the time (15:09).
————————————————
What’s your go-to race day breakfast?
Bagel w/ cream cheese and scrambled eggs.
————————————————
What are you doing to stay fit physically and mentally during this time?
I am lucky that I have a home gym and live in a place where I can safely still do all my running outside. I am watching shows and playing games with my roommates, and am also talking to lots of family and friends virtually.. trying to enjoy the little things as much as possible.
————————————————
Any advice you want to give young runners?
Have fun with it! Don’t put pressure on yourself, but at the same time it’s important to come up with big goals that you are excited to pursue. Be careful not to overwork or over train - healthy and consistent training is much more effective if you want to have long term success. ————————————————

I recently had the pleasure of talking with an extremely talented young runner, Stone Gill(). Here’s how that conversation went:
———————————————————
1)Why did you start running?
In third grade, my teacher suggested I go to a cross country camp after school. She was the coach and I always thought she was awesome so I gave it a shot. I tried it, and loved it. But it was a week long and after that week I stopped running. So I did this camp every year until 6th grade. That was the first year we could officially be on the team, and of course I signed up. I wasn’t bad but wasn’t good. About 4th-5th on a small team, but just got hooked and started really working hard.
———————————————————
2)What are some challenges you have had to face in your running career, and how did you deal with them?
I had to overcome extreme anxiety and doubt. Once I started having moderate success, I started to wonder if I was really as good as I thought. That lead to a whole spiral down that took a long time to come back from.
———————————————————
3)If you could meet/race any other pro runner, who would it be? And why?
I would want to meet Eliud Kipchoge, he’s a huge inspiration of mine a I try to mimic his style of running as much as possible.
———————————————————
4)What’s the most memorable race you have ever been a part of?
Probably winning conference for the first time in history with my team last cross season, or setting an age group (unofficial) national record at our home cross meet.
———————————————————
5) What’s your go-to race day breakfast?
I usually have some variation of oatmeal, raisins, and bananas
———————————————————
6) What are your PRs in your events?
I run a 4:30 in the mile, 2:09 in the 800, 7:18 in the 2400, 7:39 in the 2500, and a 16:17 5k

Neuro Gum!(And Mints!) Energy, focus, and freshness all wrapped up in one small package. Designed to deliver long-lasting energy in the fastest way possible. I was skeptical if they really boosted your focus and clarity all at once... but with the power of its nootropics, they really do! These bad boys offer the same energy delivery speed as an energy drink without ANY jitters or crash! Oh and did I mention, (unlike Run Gum) these actually taste phenomenal!
