Congratulations to () on being named the USATF New England Athlete of the Month for April!

Originally from Charlotte, NC, Murphy attended the U.S. Naval Academy before moving to Boston. Since joining the BAA in 2025 and working with coach Mark Carroll, Murphy has achieved many impressive race results.

Murphy finished 23rd in the 2026 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:08:58, the fastest time of any New England-based athlete.

Murphy also won the 2026 New Bedford Half Marathon in a time of 1:02:32, the 2nd fastest time in course history.

A reminder to Masters runners and club captains that the entry deadline for the USATF Masters 10km Championship held as part of the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham MA is Thursday, April 23, at 5:00 p.m.
No late entries will be accepted for the Championship race after entry closes on Thursday. Championship entries must be on the USATF entry platform, not the general race platform.

Two members of the New England Walkers were on the starting lines at the World Race Walking Team Championships on Sunday, April 12 in Brasilia, Brasil. Katie Miale wore the USA team uniform for the first time, racing the marathon distance and placing 45th (4th USA) while Jason Cherng, on his second career USA team, placed 58th (4th USA) in the half marathon race.

Margot Appleton (New Balance Boston / Mattapoisett MA) is the USATF New England Athlete of the Month for March, 2026.

In her first year of post-collegiate competition, the University of Virginia graduate represented the USA for the first time at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland, running the 3000 meters and placing 14th in a time of 9:12.57 on March 22. A competitor for Emerging Elites through high school (Portsmouth Abbey, RI), Appleton had placed third at the USA Indoor Championship 3000 meters (8:41.41) on Feburary 28, but moved up to a team position (2 per country) when current club teammate and defending World Champion Elle St.Pierre declined a team berth for family reasons.
