For those of you that have already been following our league welcome back for another season and for those of you who are new, welcome aboard.! We will likely begin play in mid May and play until mid August. This is a modified fast pitch league. If you have any interest in "playing" in a great league, we have some openings for interested players and 1 or 2 teams. The league is competitive but generally friendly. We play week days on Tuesdays and Thursdays but not both every week. Our field made of artificial turf, including the base paths. Regarding the Fenway Men's Modified Fastpitch Softball League we have had a banner week. We now have 4 teams committed for 2020. The way the schedule, 16 regular season games and 2 of 3 semis and 2 of 3 finals, best works in our 5/15 to 8/15 season, is to have 5 teams. We need one (that's 1) more team. Maybe you, YES YOU, can build a group of 3 or 4 players with one (you) being willing to manage/coach the team and then some one else and one more someone else could do the same thing and we'd have most of a team. 12 to 14 players seems to work best. Think about it cause it's a great league, very competitive, good players and good guys. I would even be willing to try and find one set of 3 or 4 for that new team. I'm Pete (617-947-4351)...........call me. Get involved!

There are 3 basic types of softball play in the Greater Boston area. #1 and the toughest is fastpitch, where the pitcher either winds the ball around the shoulder from front to back and then goes forward past the hip going for release. The 2nd and probably most common these days is slowpitch (arc pitch) that has the pitcher going from front to back past the hip and then back again for release in an arc that goes high in the air and then drops toward the plate. #3 is Modified Fastpitch, which we play in the Fenway Men's Modified Fastpitch Softball League on Park Drive in the Fenway area of Boston. In Modified Fastpitch the delivery is similar to Slowpitch except the arm goes back with more force and on the foward motion you can throw as hard as you wish in a basically straight motion keeping the bal between the armpits to knees as in baseball.
It is likely in quality Fastpitch the players are exceptional athletes and the scores are from 0 to 6 runs for each team. In Modied Fastpitch there are likely some exceptional and many very good athletes. Games can have scores in the single digits, teens and sometimes 20s. Slowpitch can be very competitive for teams that compete at the highest level, where national tournaments may have games with numerous homeruns and games with scores in the 20s. Often generally recreational Slowpitch may be coed.
I recommend that those guys new to Boston for jobs or school or returning after school, "THINK MODIFIED", and that you start talking with friends and new acquaintances about building a team of 12 to 14 players. When yoiu think Modified then you should think of the Fenway Mens Modified Fastpitch Softball League (Facbook is "Fenway Softbball"). Lastly, when you think of "Fenway Softball" get 4 or 5 guys commited and then think Pete Mittell and call me or text me (617-947-4351). I will help you organize your team and prepare for league play. Lets do this as we likely need 2 or 3 new teams. Pete Mittell

Hello, As I indicated at the end of last year, our league could be in jeopardy this year. We do not have the requisite number of teams this year. However I am going to do my best, which means I have about 2 months to find teams for 2020. If any members of this website, as friends of our league, can help, I would be eternally grateful. If you are 50 to 70 and have male kids they could be in the 20 to 30 age range you might have ideas. If you're younger you might have direct contact opportunities. I am always available (617-947-4351). It's been a great 45 years and I'm not ready to quit. Help!! Pete

The Flames won the championship in this shaky and nomadic year, as we had continual problems with acquiring players for all teams and we had to move from the Fens to McLaughlin mid-season due to construction. Hopefully, next year will be smoother or anything could happen.

Year 45 opened last night. Close game most of the way. It was tied in the 6th and we gave up 8 runs and only got 4 back in the 9th. (20-16). We welcomed Sean and Sean who joined us from the Hawks, Jimmy, a long time rival, who joined us from the Drive and Sam who is new and looks pretty damn good (3 HRs) and all legit).
