Shooting Touch is a global sport-for-development organization Founded in 2007, Shooting Touch Inc.

utilizes a sport-for-social-development model that invests in youth and women of color by providing increased access to physical activity and education that encourages healthy habits and personal development. Since its inception, Shooting Touch has grown from a grassroots basketball program in Boston into an international non-governmental organization that has served over 25,000 youth and women in six different countries. Shooting Touch was founded with the goal of taking the convening power of sport to help improve the lives of youth and women facing race, gender and health opportunity gaps by using basketball to achieve three critical objectives -
1) Provide equal access to physical activity
2) Increase access to health education and health services
3) Promote social change

We currently operate two signature sport-for-development programs simultaneously - one in Boston, MA and the other in Eastern Rwanda. The combined organization directly serves over 2,000 youth and women and indirectly impacts an additional 7,500 youth and women every day. Our detailed curriculum and program provide on- and off-court health education and intervention, mentorship and empowerment towards a pathway to a better future. We serve -
Boston: Over 200 girls, ages 9-17 throughout 5 of Boston’s urban communities. Rwanda: Over 1,300 youth, ages 7-21, and 700 women 21+, from 6 rural communities in the Republic of Rwanda’s Eastern and Northern Provinces.

As we reflect on Courtney, Grace, and Lily’s time as part of the Shooting Touch Rwanda Fellowship Program, we celebrate their dedication to our mission and the meaningful relationships they built along the way.

💡 Thoughtful, mindful, and always eager to dig deeper into sport-for-development, Courtney approached program operations with a clear sense of purpose and care.

☀️ Working alongside our Rwanda staff, Grace helped make significant strides in strengthening our health systems. She brought the same energy and enthusiasm to her work behind the scenes as she did to the basketball court, where she could often be found dancing alongside participants.

📸 Behind the lens, Lily helped bring our communities’ stories to life, capturing the people, purpose, and moments at the heart of our program that deserve to be remembered.

Connection beyond the court. 🏕️

Over the weekend, Shooting Touch Boston’s 6th–9th graders headed to Ron Burton Training Village for a retreat filled with adventure, joy, and time together. From hikes in the woods and reflections by the lake to team-building activities, card and board games, and s’mores around the bonfire, our girls had the chance to unplug, recharge, and connect.

Time away from busy schedules and the demands of competition creates space for something just as valuable: strengthening friendships, sharing laughter, and making memories. These moments - where our girls can be fully themselves, connect with each other, and experience something new together - are a big part of what makes Shooting Touch Boston special.

A heartfelt thank you to the entire Ron Burton Training Village staff for welcoming our girls and making this weekend so meaningful! 🏀💙

For 10 years, this tournament has been bigger than basketball. 🏀

This August, more than 2,000 people came together in Rukara Sector, Kayonza District, for our 10th Annual End GBV Basketball Tournament, using the power of sport to promote health, strengthen families, and raise awareness about gender-based violence.

⛹️‍♀️ Teams from Rukara, Nyamirama, Mukarange, and Rwinkwavu competed across age groups, from U13 athletes to women’s teams
🩺 635 people received free screenings and testing for HIV, noncommunicable diseases, and Hepatitis B and C
🎭 Shooting Touch youth performed a powerful skit focused on GBV prevention, reporting, and resources available to survivors

We were honored to welcome the Director General of Sports Development at the Ministry of Sports, Muvunyi Gilbert, as our guest of honor, along with delegates from the district and sector, for a day centered on basketball, health, family cohesion, and gender equality.

A special thank you to the Foundation and its Propose a Project initiative for believing in the power of sport and helping make this event possible. Together, we are investing in healthier, safer communities in Kayonza District.

Shooting Touch hit the streets of Kigali! 🌟🏀

Youth representing our Kayonza and Bugesera courts joined forces at Shooting Touch’s first-ever Talent Showcase Tournament, bringing their skills, teamwork, and energy to the city.

So grateful to our staff, partners, and fans for supporting the continued growth of basketball across Rwanda and creating pathways for youth advancement.

And a special thanks to Imbuto Hub for hosting us at their beautiful Kimisagara court!
