34 🎂

They say 33 is your “Jesus year,” full of trials and tests. Mine didn’t disappoint. To the ones who stood in my corner when it mattered most—thank you. You kept me grounded and moving forward during some very challenging times.

And to those who tried to use me and lie on my name—thank you too. You pushed me to grow, to get clearer, and to stand firmer in who I am.

Grateful for the lessons and ready for what 34 bring 🥂

Getting back to my roots.

Being back at Lincoln Park reminds me why I do this. My purpose is to enhance how basketball changes our young people’s lives. As coaches, we step into a sacred space, one where our words, our standards, and our belief in these kids can shift the trajectory of who they become.

We get to help them see a better version of themselves, hold them to a standard that rises beyond the court, and remind them that greatness is built in the daily habits no one else sees.

It is a privilege to be entrusted with that process, one I am constantly trying to grow through and honor. Coaching is not just what I do; it is part of who I am.

This past weekend still doesn’t feel real. Sharing a stage at Harvard University with leaders from New Balance, WHOOP, and Amazon Prime Video was one of the most surreal experiences of my life.

Operation Basketball is a movement born from countless hours spent on the south and west sides. It grew from my time as a kid with the Sonny Parker Youth Foundation, watching my dad run his nonprofit, and later as an adult through late nights in gyms, weight rooms, and community centers, all centered on helping people rediscover belief in themselves.

To be represented on one of the world’s biggest academic stages felt empowering. I wasn’t standing there just for me, but for every kid in our program, for every nonprofit in Chicago fighting for change, and for every dreamer who just needs someone to believe in them.

I left imagining a future where we bring our youth to campuses like Harvard, not as visitors but as future students, speakers, and leaders.
