Our first event is Berthoud Pass, West, on Jan 7th. All are welcome. This is also a great place to learn if you are new to the sport. Avi-gear is required. No one skis alone.

Skiing up the mainline up to the weather tower, then traversing to the west a bit (I think it's about 1/4 of a mile). From there, we'll run 400' vertical laps to the northeast in the Meadows area.

Meet at the Berthoud Pass Parking lot. We will gather near the road, do a beacon check, and cross to the West side together at 7:25. I suggest arriving before 7a to ensure parking. I'll wear a fluorescent orange puffy. Gold Subaru Outback with Thule top box and firefighter plates, 775-IUA.

Please bring a radio if you have one (not required). We will set it to Channel 6 and Interference Eliminator Code 7.

Once again, I suggest arriving a bit before 7a - the parking lot fills up fast! We will start skinning/hiking up at 7:30a sharp. Come early and say hello.

See the short first-tracks video from last year at Berthoud Pass.

With over a foot of snow in some areas this Thanksgiving, I'm getting excited to launch our 5th uphill season together. We get into the Colorado backcountry together every Sunday as soon as the snowpack allows.

We will focus on avalanche-safe areas with slope angles of 27 degrees or less and pay attention to the surrounding terrain and avalanche forecasts for the region. Avi gear is required, nonetheless. All experience levels are welcome, including new backcountry skiers and split-boarders.

We'll go anywhere from Hidden Valley in RMNP to Hippie Trees on the East side of Vail Pass, Henderson Mine, Mt. Saint Vrain, C**n Hill, Rollins Pass, St. Mary's Glacier and James Peak, Quandary Peak - so many places. Please suggest an area you would like to explore, and we will plan it! I'll schedule the location a week in advance, but if it snows, we will adjust to find the best powder and first tracks.
