Conrad Bui often talks about being a MAN (martial arts nerd), but that's only one facet of most people who stick with martial arts. It's not unusual at our Boulder practices to geek out about a wide range of topics such as physics, mathematics, linguistics, dance, physiology, science fiction, music accounting and philosophy -- and somehow it's all relevant to what we're drilling.

Awesome to see kids learning knife awareness with a bit of pressure testing. Note to self: get a set of safety goggles for sparring classes.

My kids class doing combat sport knife sparring. If you’ve got an issue with this, you’re taking things waaaay too seriously. This is paintball. This is jiujitsu. This is wrestling. This is horseplay. This is jousting. Kids need to compete in a healthy environment where they get to fail and succeed under guidance. As adults, we tend to lose this sense of being okay with losing games…and going again and again for a chance to win! In my adult seminars and classes, we play and we compete with one another in the most fun and healthy ways! If you’ve been to one, you know what I mean. Play is the superhighway to learning and kids are the fastest drivers!

Looks like there is still room. This unique camp that will focus on the more esoteric aspects of pencak silat not often seen outside of Southeast Asia. Also it's a great opportunity to get a more local Hawaiian experience.

Here's an interesting event for those in the Boulder Area. The 8th World Naginata Championship will be at CU Boulder this weekend. For those unfamiliar with the term Naginata is basically a Japanese spear. I believe competition includes both sparring/fencing and kata/forms.
