Wildfire resilience takes many forms, including some that moo. Starting in mid-June, cattle will be working their way through designated Open Space areas west of Boulder, helping reduce grasses that can contribute to fast-moving wildfires. This project is part of a broader effort that includes perimeter mowing, ecosystem restoration and community preparedness.

Please respect all posted signs, keep pets under control and give livestock plenty of space.

Colorado's prairies are one of the most hardworking landscapes in the state, and one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America.

They filter our water, shelter hundreds of species and store carbon underground with quiet resilience. And right here in Boulder, we have large expanses of them!

Next time you visit an open space like Greenbelt Plateau, slow down. Listen for the birds and insects. These prairies are a living connection to something ancient, and spending time in them does the soul good.

🌾 Happy Colorado Prairie Day!
