On January 15th, 2025, one of our guides and his wife remotely triggered a hard slab avalanche while backcountry skiing on Vail Pass.

As you can see (and hear), the slide was powerful enough to break large timber.

The avalanche forecast that day was Considerable for this elevation and aspect — conditions were primed.

A real-world reminder that terrain management and route planning are paramount.

Stay heads up out there. ❄️

That’s a wrap on our recent Intro to Mountaineering course!

This two-day course starts with a full day of snow travel skills, including moving efficiently as a roped team, belaying techniques in crampons, and proper use of a mountaineering axe. On day two, we put it all together and climb a route.

We have weekend dates available now through the summer. If you have any questions, send us a DM or give our office a call — we’d love to chat!
