Every December, I ask myself the same question:
Am I supporting⦠or am I assisting myself into exhaustion?
Many women, spend the end of the year carrying invisible labor.
But hereās the truth:
Assistance is often rooted in obligation.
Support is rooted in choice, boundaries, and self-preservation.
This year, Iām challenging myself and encouraging you to shift:
Maybe someone else hosts.
Maybe the struggling employee needs honesty, not enabling.
Maybe I need to be the one I support first.
Because we cannot pour from a body, mind, or spirit running on fumes.
As we close 2025, ask yourself:
Where are you assisting out of pressureā¦
and where can you start supporting yourself again?

When the government shuts down, leadership gets tested.
Over 1.4 million workers are furloughed or working without pay.
This isnāt just an economic crisis.
Itās a leadership stress test.
Hereās what itās teaching us šš¾
1ļøā£ Uncertainty is the new baseline.
2ļøā£ HR is the new crisis function.
3ļøā£ Empathy is strategy.
4ļøā£ Build resilience before you need it.

I almost lost my son before I met him.
Emergency C-section. Slowed heartbeat.
Thenāhis first cry. Calm. Present.
That was my son, Nathan.
Last week, he graduated middle school.
And Iām reminded of this powerful truth:
Transitions arenāt just milestones. They are transformations.
Nathan didnāt come out talking.
We taught him to meditate. To journal. To reflect.
Now? He speaks up. Tries new things. Leads with heart.
Iāve used the same tools coaching executives through change.
And hereās what I know for sure:
ā Growth starts in stillness.
Ā ā Self-awareness builds brave action.
Ā ā Emotional fluency is a leadership superpower.
Whatever chapter youāre enteringāprofessionally or personallyāpause, feel it, own it.
The truth is: weāre all navigating a āgraduationā of some kind. Maybe not in caps and gownsābut in identity, purpose, role, or rhythm.
Ā
And no matter how successful, seasoned, or senior you are...
Youāre still becoming.
Ā
So, as you navigate your own transitionsāprofessional or personalāI invite you to lead with the same grace and courage Iāve watched in Nathan.
Your next level starts there.š¬
What transitions are you navigating right now?

ā¼ļøI ended up in debilitating nerve pain after I facilitated a leadership retreat with 60+ physicians and psychologists. I was pouring from a full cup⦠or so I thought.
After a visit to the emergency room, a friend lovingly asked me: āWhatās getting on your nerves?ā
I paused.
I reflected.
And I made a list.
(Spoiler: It was long.)š
āØBut hereās what changed everything: I decided to do ONE thing differently.
I chose to rest.
Not after my to-do list was complete.
Not when everything was perfectly aligned.
I made rest the most important thing on my calendar.

In February, I had the honor of attending Chief's inspirational event: "Reclaiming Rest: Black Women in Executive Leadership & Creating Cultures of Wellbeing." The discussion was moderated by Jalina P. and the speaker, Alencia Johnson shared her own story about rest and resiliency.
It reminded me of a book I read recently, Rest is Resistance, that has truly changed me!
Truly looking forward to the next one!

As a natural introvert (no one believes me š) networking events can be intimidating! Recently, I attended an intimate networking event held by Executive Alliance (women leadership organization in Maryland) and met brilliant and powerful women!
Here are a few strategies that help me get out of my comfort zone:
1. Attend smaller, intimate events and bring a friend or colleague.
2. Prepare conversation starters in advance.
3. Follow up with your new contacts soon after the event!
You got this! Time to SOAR!

This summer was EPIC! Incredibly GRATEFUL for my two interns, Justin (my son) and Miah. Nathan will be joining our next year's internship program.
At the age of 20, God implanted the dream of being a consultant and entrepeneur!
Now, we have part-time consultants, administrative team, and interns.
God, you did that!
