What is tapering and why is it so important before any type of competition:

Tapering isn’t slacking off — it’s strategic. In the days leading up to an event, reducing training volume while keeping intensity allows the body to fully repair muscle tissue, replenish glycogen stores, and shed accumulated fatigue from weeks of hard training. Skip this phase and you show up to compete on tired legs, working against yourself instead of for the win.

Mobility work like this — foam rolling and targeted stretching — plays a key role in that taper window. It keeps tissue quality high, supports joint range of motion, and helps flush out soreness without adding more training stress. The goal isn’t to build fitness in these final days; it’s to arrive fresh, loose, and ready to express the fitness you’ve already built.

Recovery isn’t the reward for hard work — it’s part of the work. Trust the taper.

Masters Boxing 🥊 Championships in Atlantic City this past weekend. I grateful that I have opportunities to travel and work with amazing humans. This weekend was a right of passage and paradigm shift for all of our athletes. I don’t take it lightly the title of Sports Performance Coach/Trainer. Every individual I have the honor of working with I learn and grow a bit more. Special shout to Kevin Lewis (Boxing Trainer) and Level Up for the opportunities. I don’t take it lightly. Let’s continue to LVLUP, Raaawr and ROAR together. To all the fighters Lo**ta, GiGi, Hassan, Patrick, Randi. Let’s gooooooo. Special shout also to the families who hold these athletes down. We couldn’t do it without you. What’s next? Masters Boxing in Vegas. We got a whole crew lined up!! Leh gooooooo!!!

I posted this in my story but I want to expound just a little. For some of us doubt screams loudly at us in many areas of our lives. For me it seems like a megaphone is being used. It doesn’t matter how much I do I always feel like I’m not worthy or not good enough to be in rooms with others within my field. Imposter syndrome and the doubt minion are real. Unfortunately, it’s an area of mental health that rears its ugly head.

I’m grateful that my gift and passion is making room for me and I have earned a seat at the table. Being a college professor was a goal of mine for quite some time. My profession outside of running Conversion Fitness was secondary education. Physical Education and Health and law enforcement. I had wanted to get back into law enforcement because I love that too but also to help when the business is a little slow. 2025 and the early months of 2026 I applied everywhere and didn’t get a bite. Every door closed. Even to colleges the same. But my friend Greg Powers asked if I wanted to teach and if course I said “Hell yes” And now here I am teaching Exercise Physiology. A college professor. And I’ve also been invited to be a guest lecturer at Hood College for a fellow faculty member. So grateful.

Sometimes you want to throw in the towel too soon. Keep pushing. Everything isnt perfect by any means but this little piece of happiness I’m grateful for.

For those who have been in my corner and stood along side me thank you for encouraging me. You know who you are. Much love.

But…I’m not done. There’s more to accomplish. So even when my ROAR sounds like a kittens meow (which has been that lately) I’m still here!

I know you’ve seen the announcements through my story feed. But just wanted to let everyone know it’s officially official. I’m so grateful for doors to be opening with my passions. I am now a professor lecturing at Hood College. I will be teaching and lecturing within the subject area of Exercise Physiology. I’m honored to be able to have the platform to empower young minds who are embarking on this profession.
Thank you to everyone especially my Conversion Fitness for always ROARing with me. Let’s continue to grow and build TOGETHER!!

The grind doesn’t stop just because you are on business. It just stays leveled.

Sometimes you need a gym that’s just old school. No A/C. Nothing too fancy. Just you and the clang and bang of weights and the rolling of sweat down your face. Just damn cathartic

This is my type of environment. Let’s get after it and make some music with these weights. It’s leg day. Le goooooooooooooo.

Kings Gym thank you for rolling out the red carpet form me this entire weekend. If you are in Palm Springs and need a 24/hr facility hit up Jake. Thank you brother.
