It was a rough weekend for the Cox Racing team at Darana Motorsports Park for the PDRA Drag Wars, with both cars facing challenges that brought their weekends to an early close.

In Pro Boost, the Big Guy, Fletcher Cox, began testing with a set of new tires. A big burnout was followed by tire shake, forcing Cox to abort the run. On the second and final testing attempt, the car left the starting line clean, but approximately 150 feet into the run, the blower banged, bringing the pass to an abrupt end.

The Cox Racing crew went to work and had the motor repaired and ready to go for qualifying.

Unfortunately, the problems continued. In the final qualifying session, everything looked good off the starting line, but the car dropped cylinders down track. Cox coasted to a 4.09, leaving him outside the Pro Boost field and ending his weekend.

In Pro Street, Andy Mac put together a solid qualifying effort, running a 3.957 to secure the sixth spot out of the eighteen cars that made a qualifying attempt.

Mac faced Tim Lyons in the first round of eliminations. The two cars ran nearly identical numbers, with both posting 3.96s, but it was Lyons who got the win light, bringing Mac’s weekend to an end.

Fletcher Cox will turn his attention to the Yellow Bullet Nationals next weekend at Cecil County Dragway, while Andy Mac will be back in action at the PDRA World Finals in a few weeks at Virginia Motorsports Park.

The PDRA Thunder Valley Throwdown was a strong weekend for Cox Racing, highlighted by new career-best performances, a No. 1 qualifying effort, and a semifinal-round appearance in Pro Boost.

In Pro Boost, the Big Guy, Fletcher Cox, came into the weekend ready to make an impact. Cox qualified second with a new career-best 3.616 at 207.02 mph, setting up a first-round matchup against Kurt Steding in the P2 Contracting Corvette.

Steding had the early advantage off the starting line, but Cox charged back down track to take the win, posting a 3.648 to Steding’s 3.691.

Round two brought Cox up against Johnny Camp, one of the category’s known leavers. Cox brought his A-game, leaving the starting line first and never looking back. He went wire-to-wire for the win with a 3.626 to Camp’s 3.645, advancing to the semifinals.

Unfortunately, Cox’s weekend came to an end in the semifinals when he turned on the red light. Despite the early exit, it was an impressive weekend for Cox, highlighted by his new career-best performance and two strong round wins.

Andy Mac put together an impressive qualifying effort in Pro Street, earning the No. 1 qualifying position with a 3.951 and setting up a first-round matchup against Brian McGee.

Mac got the job done in round one with a wire-to-wire victory, leaving the starting line first and posting a 4.037 as McGee was forced to abort his run.

Mac advanced to the second round, where his weekend came to an end against Tim Essick.

Overall, it was a weekend full of momentum for Cox Racing, with a career-best run from Fletcher Cox, a No. 1 qualifying effort from Andy Mac, and a semifinal appearance in Pro Boost.

The team will now turn its attention to PDRA Drag Wars at GALOT Motorsports Park in a few weeks, ready to carry that momentum into the next event.
