NS9 Bullpen Breakdown time as the second half starts today with a doubleheader in Cleveland. It’s a bullpen reset with the ASB and postponed air game last night. Everyone fresh. Khristian Curtis is up and Wilber Dotel is the 27th man. Jared Jones starts G1 and bullpen game for G2 which I expect we’ll see Curtis and Dotel in that second game. Everyone is fresh!

Oneil Cruz to the 60-Day IL.

With Khristian Curtis getting the promotion and added to the 40-man roster, the Pirates needed to free a spot up. There is no setbacks to Cruz’s injury, but now he won’t be available to return until August 8.

With the doubleheader today, Khristian Curtis has a locker and will be promoted to the major league roster. The right hander is listed as the Pirates 21st ranked prospect according to Pipeline.

Murf Gray has been a MONSTER of a prospect for Pittsburgh. The last time we saw anything like this was from the Pirates current SS, Konnor Griffin.

Their slash lines look nearly identical through their first 82 professional games, but Murf has certainly provided more muscle. He has 24 HR and 71 RBI while Griffin only had 13 HR and 53 RBI.

If this pace holds, Murf Gray may be the Pirates 3rd baseman for years to come sooner rather than later.

Levi Sterling is still years away, but the size, pitch mix and projection make him one of the more interesting young arms in the Pirates’ system. The next step is turning that potential into more velocity and consistent results.

Luke Weaver is Jim’s top trade target for the Pirates. He brings postseason experience, another year of control and the kind of reliability this bullpen badly needs.

Gray joins Seth Hernandez (6) and Edward Florentino (29) on Pipelines Top 100 list

The Pirates have officially signed six players from their 2026 draft class: Ryan Marohn, Tyler Fay, Bryson Moore, Alex Overbay, Tre Phelps III and Michael Gibson. All six will begin their pro careers in the Florida Complex League.
