KC United Girls Rugby

After the ruggers put in work and displayed their skills at the TID camp and skills clinic. They got a meet and greet with the whole women’s 15s team! So honored that they took the time to come chat, sign gear, and take pictures with them (and a certain coach) after starting a match on Friday night and ended on Saturday morning! Thankful for these warriors and what they do for women’s rugby! 🇺🇸🏉💪🏾

So many players from so many different teams showed up and showed out for the women’s Talent ID camp and player skills clinic! Still can’t believe we were able to host this! A big shoutout and thank you to Isaiah Williams for considering us and being a major key in making this happen at our home pitch! 💪🏾🏉🇺🇸

Before we get into the highlights, we need to thank the loonsrugbyacademy for putting on our black jerseys and supplementing THE TRIBE as we got hit with the injury bug towards the end of our second match on Saturday! 💪🏾💪🏾

If you didn’t know by now, Saturday is a rugby day! This past weekend, THE TRIBE, fought in their first live rugby matches of the spring! We travelled to Iowa with a team of 12 for a 10s tournament! Our team of 12 featured 8 girls that are freshman and up until this point had never played a second of live rugby against opposition! All my ruggers know, the only way to really learn this game is to get out there and feel the speed, intensity and physicality that rugby brings! 💪🏾

Game 1: Shout out to a frequent collaborator and opponent loonsrugbyacademy!
This match was a back and forth battle against an energetic and experienced Loons team! We had some success, but more importantly learning moments that will do nothing, but build our squad for the future! High rugby IQ, hard hitting and an amazing team mentality, make the Loons a worthy opponent for any team they play!

Game 2: This match taught us the most though. THE TRIBE faced off against an Iowa Selects Hawkettes squad that meant business. The loss was lopsided, but it gave THE TRIBE a look at some of the highest level of rugby we’ll see at this level. The Hawkettes are physical, intelligent, efficient and dominant in all phases of the game. We’re appreciative of the lessons and opportunity , but more so, driven, to reach of level of play to compete with teams of their caliber!

Shout out and big thanks to wdmwombatsrugby for letting us use their fields and their hospitality throughout the day! Thank you to both the Loons/Hopkins and the Hawkettes for the matches and lessons taught! Our young squad is driven and excited for more rugby! Be on the lookout for our highlights from the day!
