This is the hardest process for me to master...

Allowing.

As a resourceful high performer I pretty much know one way to get something done. Do it.

If I don't know how, I'll figure it out (but with health it took me four stinking decades but whatever).

My brain is so wired for this that it is taking a Herculean effort to rewire.

I get angry - especially with myself - but guess what?

That's the opposite of what gets results.

So no crap self talk, clear objectives, and consistent forward movement - not rushed, but intentional.

Anticipation matters.... a lot.

Most people plan around what's realistic.

I plan around what I want.

The trips. The evenings. The work that feels like play.

Not as a reward for getting there. As the architecture I build toward.

Anticipation isn't wishful thinking. It's the system that makes the work worth doing.

You don't accidentally live a life you designed.

I went quiet on purpose.

Not because I had nothing to say.

If you know me, you know that’s true.

I went quiet because there was work to be done.

The practice is better. The approach is simpler.

And for the right person, it's going to be the thing that finally works.

Quality time in the people soup.

We talk money, medicine, nutrition, health, parenting, investing…all the things. Plans.

It’s an end of day ritual of nothing that means everything.

I used to sleep here.

For nearly 15 years as a nocturnist in a level 2 trauma center, this was my sleep room.

Now it’s where I create.

In 3 months I replaced my income. Three years later I keep forging ahead.

This is what a shift should feel like.

I am good at working hard. That was never the problem.

I set goals. I have discipline. I am resourceful AF.

Turns out I kept skipping the fundamentals - because I didn't truly understand.

Your success formula stopped working. That's how it works.

But like talking to someone who doesn't speak your language - repeating it louder won't work.

And actually take it?

I used to think rest was the thing that would break the streak. Like if I stopped, everything I built would unravel.

Turns out the unraveling was already happening, like spaghettification in Loki. Decisions I was too tired to make well. Creativity I couldn't access. The version of myself nobody was getting because I had nothing left.

White space isn't the enemy of growth. It's where growth actually happens.

Save this for the next time you feel guilty about stopping.

Welcome to being human.

You have blind spots.

You don’t know they’re there.

BECAUSE THEY ARE BLIND SPOTS!!!

Question it all - especially what comes from your brain.

Question it more if you’re tired, fearful or hangry.

And surround yourself with trusted people who question you. That’s the courageous part.
