Serve & Smash is thrilled to announce our newest addition to our Pickleball Coaching Team. Coach Roger Light. Scroll to read Roger’s Full Bio!!!🎉🎉🎉

Roger Light is a life-long racquet athlete with advanced degrees in psychology, plus an extensive background in art and education. His love of racquet sports began over 50 years ago when he took up tennis, idolizing Bjorn Borg.

Roger approaches pickleball like an art form. He prioritizes brushing the ball correctly, understanding the spatial relationships that develop during each point and placing the ball intelligently based upon those relationships.

Roger is a huge proponent of strength and conditioning work for pickleball as well as developing a deep understanding of proper footwork and tactics on the court.

Another favorite subject for Roger is teaching spin. A strong understanding of how to apply various types of spin, coupled with an understanding of how best to return spinny shots, is an essential prerequisite for higher-level play. It is best to begin studying this as early as possible, so that it becomes second nature by the time a student reaches an intermediate level of play.

Roger coached the past two years in the Dallas area for two pickleball franchises. Roger and his wife Kathy moved here to be closer to their kids and their new granddaughter. They are thrilled to be part of the coastal Connecticut community.
