Meet Mary Kathryn Mendoza, one of the Brea Community Center’s original team members. 💙
Before the Brea Community Center welcomed its first visitors, Mary Kathryn was already helping bring this special place to life.
Growing up in Brea, Mary Kathryn watched with excitement as the Community Center was being built. At the time, she was teaching preschool in Brea while working toward becoming a teacher and wanted to gain experience working with a variety of ages. She began her journey with BCC through Summer Day Camp before joining the team as the lead staff member for Kid Watch.
Her first days at BCC were unlike any other. Before the doors opened to the public, the team was preparing the building, setting up spaces, decorating the Kid Watch room, and training staff. Together, they were creating the foundation for what would become a place where generations of families would connect and create memories.
Over the past 30 years, Mary Kathryn has watched BCC grow from a small, close-knit team into the community hub it is today. She has seen generations of families walk through the doors, including children she once cared for in Kid Watch and taught in Tiny Tots who later returned with their own children.
“BCC is a part of me and my story as much as I am a part of it.”
From a college student starting a new adventure to a longtime team member continuing to serve the community she loves, Mary Kathryn’s journey is a reminder of the lasting impact the Brea Community Center has had over the past 30 years.
