Inner Wild Nutrition

Inner Wild Nutrition Welcome to Inner Wild Nutrition! My name is Uriell and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and I help cyclists, runners, and skiers know what to eat.

Uriell is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and owner of Whole Life Breck. She studied at Bastyr University in Seattle and then completed her dietetic internship with Utah State University during which she worked in a variety of clinical, community and food service nutrition settings throughout Colorado. Uriell’s passion for nutrition began while growing up on her family’s organic farm in Vermont. Upon moving to Breckenridge in 2007 she found that nutrition and questions regarding food and health were a common topic of conversation among friends and fellow athletes and she wanted to find a way to be able to answer those questions. Today, Uriell’s nutrition practice focuses on incorporating whole foods nutrition with sustainable goals that will help you achieve whole body health and wellness for a lifetime. Specialties include weight loss, sports and performance nutrition and chronic disease prevention or management. Uriell’s favorite part of her job is that her “work” is as much a part of her personal life as it is her professional life. Beyond Whole Life Breck, she can be found working at Whole Foods in Frisco, experimenting with new recipes in her kitchen, or outside either trail running, split boarding or training for her upcoming mountain bike race season. Uriell welcomes all ages and is open to discuss any nutritional interests you may have.

Truly, you get to make fueling work for YOU - there are not many rules here

In general, aim for mostly carbs with limited amounts of fat, protein + fiber. But, if you hate gels, there are SO MANY other options out there!!

And, remeber, there’s nothing WRONG with gels and bars, especially for those who are totally fine with taking them in. The ultimate goal is for all athletes to be fueled 🎉

If you’re new here, I’m a dietitian who works with endurance athletes of all levels - you don’t have to be competing or aiming for the podium

You just have to move your body on a regular basis - that’s basically it.

AND, If you’re feeling like your efforts are harder than they need to be, you’re working harder than all your friends or you’re putting in all this work but not seeing the results you think you should, you’re probably right. It’s also probably food-related - not that you “just need to train more”

So, stick around - I’ve got you😏

Athletes often think that GI issues are just something you have to deal with. They’re not.

Your gut can be trained — the same way you’d build strength or endurance in any other system. It just takes consistency and a plan.

Ready to stop guessing and start fueling with a strategy? 🎯 DM “DISCOVERY” and let’s build yours.

Slow-dripping your fuel multiple times per hour is more about supporting your gut than it is about spreading out your energy/carb availability - in fact, research shows that the energy availability of your carbs is the same if it’s consumed in 1 dose/hr or 3-4x/hr, but the limiting factor becomes your gut’s tolerance to that fuel dose!

Go & check out one of those muscle milk jugs from GNC with something like Momentous or Ascent Protein for a case in point here - those complex ingredient lists are not needed in a protein power!

“I was hungry, but it was after 8 PM so I didn’t eat anything”, or “my workout finished late and then I wasn’t sure if I should eat anything or just go to bed” - IF YOU NEED FOOD, EAT!

And if you are eating late, there is a way to be strategic about this - combine your carbohydrates with proteins and healthy fats so that you don’t go to bed with a big blood sugar spike.

🚨The theme here isn’t intention. Ignore the big rules that say one side is bad and the other side is good. They are rarely true!

Going too long without eating & then, when you finally do eat, eating far more than you truly need is a cycle that tends to repeat itself over + over again - and it usually also means you’re not eating WHEN your body needs those calories the most!

🚨Don’t get yourself stuck on the is cycle

It’s easy to think that we need the latest & greatest of all the best gear + that we need to be doing what the pros are doing in order to get stronger and faster, but the truth is, if you don’t have these fundamentals dialed, you will never be able to build from there - perfect this stuff first!

To all of you that are GF and/or DF, I’m sorry that you can’t eat everything you want to - truly, and, I hope that this list gives you some inspo 🫶

Also, if you are, please share your own ideas in the comments so more GF/DF athletes can get ideas!

I originally created this list for myself & have since then helped a handful of my own athletes implement it for their own events

🤯Don’t waste time wandering around your resupply stop having to make decisions in the moment - save this list to ensure you leave with everything you need until the next stop!
