🧴 It is Medicine Monday! And it is all yellow. That is right we are talking about Furacin or Fura-zone Ointment (Nitrofurazone). Not all wound products are created equally and may be a detriment to wound healing.

💛 Nitrofurazone is a topical water-soluble ointment with antibacterial properties for superficial wounds. And it is commonly used in combination with DMSO gel as a “sweat” for horses with cellulitis. Nitrofurazone should never be used on open wounds. Research has shown that nitrofurazone inhibits wound healing by as much as 24%.

☣️Nitrofurazone is associated with carcinogenicity, defined as the potential of a biomaterial to promote tumor formation. This has led to many horse owners throwing out their supply due to this risk.

🩺 We always recommend seeking veterinary advise and an exam when it comes to wounds. Wounds may involve important structures including bone, tendon sheaths and/or joints. It is important that wounds be thoroughly examined by your veterinarian so they can recommend appropriate diagnostics, treatment options and possible referral to an equine hospital.

I’m always talking about this. . . Look for the root cause of the behavior issues. It’s easy to train a horse with behavior issues to ignore their pain and submit but in my opinion that’s not ethical. Look for the root cause and fix the pain

Beautiful black 19 yr old Irish Sport Horse mare looking for a retirement home. Would be the best companion horse. Roughly 15.3/16 hh. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her! She’s a mellow lady looking to bond with her next person. She prefers mellow quiet people but she is also used to being around kids. She has very good ground manners. She ties, bathes, clips, stands for the farrier and good with vets. Front shoes only.

Used to be in a pasture with other horses and is a more submissive mare.

Utd on all medical. Owner is going to college and has two small children and limited time so she has made the decision to allow her to be part of another family.

She will stay under a trainer’s supervision until that is accomplished.

Please study this. There’s many aspects to saddle fit but I see this so common that the horses scapulas get pinched and sore, horses end up further on their front end, sore backs, weak thoracic slings, rides high headed and some may even end up with arthritis in the spine as a results. Yes all things that can happen just from the poor saddle fit.
