Park City Ski Patrol Strike Against Vail Resorts Continues (Gift Article) Long lift lines, limited terrain and frustration among skiers and snowboarders are downstream impacts of a wage dispute between union workers at Park City Mountain in Utah and its owner, Vail Resorts.

What a blast from the past it was to spend time in Sunriver during ski boot test earlier this month. It’s the first place we lodged when Jeffrey Rich and I started ski boot testing at Mount Bachelor back in 1987.

The place has an interesting history. Before it became a planned community in the late 60s, it was a training base for WWII combat engineers. The historic Great Hall is the only significant structure to survive from that early use.

An impressive log structure measuring 50 by 96 feet, constructed with native stone and logs cut near the building site, it was originally used as the officer’s mess hall. It has a high ceiling with exposed beams, a large stone fireplace, and a balcony overlooking the main floor.

There are also small side rooms including an intimate fireside room and a number of conference rooms. In 1993, Sunriver Resort completed a major renovation of the historic Great Hall.
