Promoting girls and women in hockey at the grassroots level is a cause that is close to my heart, especially as someone who didn't come from a hockey family and got into the sport a little later myself.
So it was rewarding to connect with girls and their families and help them with their equipment during the Girls Try Hockey for Free event at Bridgewater Sports Arena on Saturday. The event, which featured forward , was one of thousands of events across , and beyond celebrating World Girls Hockey Weekend.
Helping girls have a good experience getting into what can seem like an intimidating sport is so important. It's why I've used my experience coaching developmental players and girls to write a book about girls' hockey!
"Girls Rule the Ice! A Girl’s Guide to Ice Hockey" is the book I would have liked to have had growing up and getting into the sport. It discusses topics such as what equipment to wear, what the basics of the game are, what the path to progress in the sport might look like, and some of the history of women's hockey and the impact women are having on the game, on and off the ice.
Writing this book has been quite the journey (3 years in the making!), and I’m thrilled to finally see it get into the hands of the girls/parents out there who want to learn more about the sport. Check it out here: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/girls-hockey-book

Is your high schooler an aspiring writer or content creator? I'm sharing an opportunity for them to build their resume and portfolio (and win some college $$$!)
My company LeagueApps is hosting a scholarship contest for student-athletes (grades 10-12) who want to share their experience playing sports and what they learned from it.
The grand prize winner will receive $1,500, be published on our blog, and have the opportunity to share their story at our annual sports conference in NYC in October (flight and stay included!). Five finalists will receive $500 each and have their story published on our blog.
Most, if not all, content creation positions require a portfolio of published work to even apply. This is a rare opportunity for your high schooler to have published work before college!
