Curious George
This is George. He is a good little monkey — and always very curious. George is a tall warmblood-cross gelding standing 16’2” hands to be exact.
George is eight this year and full of curiosity. He likes to sniff everything — the brushes, your pockets, even the dogs and cats. When he first came home in November 2023, he didn’t know very much at all. He would wear a halter and walk on a lead (if you could catch him), but that was it. Everything else was brand new.
In the spring of 2024 George was started and quickly learned to walk, trot, and canter under saddle. He is great with groundwork and can be ground driven (long lined). Under saddle the walk and trot were easy but the canter—well, that one still takes some practice to find his balance. However, George improves with every session and is eager to learn. His gaits are super smooth and so easy for his rider to sit too.
George likes to move forward and listens very carefully. Sometimes he hears a funny sound and will react — just to make sure everything is okay. He’s not scared, just curious.
He tried jumping once or twice and thought it was exciting. But he prefers keeping all four feet on the ground and will be an elegant dressage partner. He likes to show off his floaty trot and stretchy walk.
On the ground, George loves attention. He happily stands tied for grooming and loves being fussed over, though cross-ties are still a bit puzzling. He is excellent for the vet, and the farrier says George has decent manners, even if he wiggles his toes sometimes.
George is a big boy with big solid feet. What he really wants is an advanced, confident rider or trainer looking for a prospect who will keep teaching him new things—because Curious George loves to learn.
Every day is an adventure for George, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll discover next.

Such a stellar weekend at the Spring Gulch Horse Trials for the Volte crew! A huge shout out to and for organizing and managing such a cornerstone event every year for .area.ix. I don’t think we’ve missed this show since we started eventing. 🥰
On Saturday, Michael and Vienna had solid rounds in both stadium and xc. Progress is a process with this mare and kudos to him for his patience. On to schooling the water this wk if the water stops falling from the sky, in preparation for in two weeks.
Sunday was a proud day all around. Both mares that Michael backed and started competed in the starter divisions. .eventing’s mare Cashew not only completed her first horse trials, but came in a solid 2nd place piloted by Michael. Progress has also been a process for the young mare, but she’s learning and improving every time she’s competed this season. And mare Lark competed in, and completed her first ever horse trials with Jenn. Jumping is Larks FAVORITE thing, and Jenn did an excellent job making her first outing a positive learning experience, trotting the entire xc course.
And lastly, the Demon had an absolute blast rocking the Horse Trials. Putting in a solid dressage test, a slightly erratic stadium (I need to use my leg and ride forward) and a foot perfect xc round to place 3rd. He is SO much fun to ride.

Saturday we had a very good first spring xc outing at Spring Gulch knocking off some dust. We’re looking forward to the beginning of the season.

Volte Farms has three great horses available for month-to-month on-farm leases. Both partial and full lease available.
The first is the beast that is Guinness. He is a 16'2" hand Shire/Hanoverian cross that in his early days evented through training level. He is now a dressage and flat horse only. He has competed through 2nd level dressage successfully and has tons of personality. He is a fun ride but not suited for a beginner.
The second horse is the beautiful BCW Coco Chanel. She is a 15'2" hand Friesian/TB cross who is an excellent teacher and stunning dressage horse. She has competed through 2nd level and is super trust-worthy. The better the rider the more she shines.
The third horse is actually a pony (but don't tell her that). Thumbelina is a beefy 13'1" who competed through novice eventing, but would love to show a confident kid or small adult the ropes in eventing. She is in her 20s now so should stick to starter and maybe BN with the right person.
