Open Trails + XC! Our doors will be open again to guest riders on Sunday 9/20. Enjoy a day on the trails along Broad Run! The 240ac property offers scenic countryside on miles of well-maintained trails across rolling meadows and through shady woods. Explore this place at your own pace, try some obstacles along the way, and cruise through the cross-country field where you may want to try some of the easier jumps (wear your helmet!). Just have fun and relax!

A map and signage along the way will help you to navigate between the landmarks like the Treehouse, Rim Trail, River Field and the Stables. The property is all fenced in, and you will not get lost!

On the day of the event the property will be open for arrivals between 10am and 1pm. Entry fee is $40 with pre-registration (open until 6pm Friday night), and $50 as walk-in on the day of the event (bring your Coggins!).

Those who want to focus on XC schooling are invited to book a time slot at the XC course on Saturday 9/19. Open Trail Day: Sun 9/20. - Alanwood invites riders to bring their horses, and enjoy a day on the 240ac property on both sides of Broad Run. Explore the scenic countryside on miles of well-maintained trails with a lot of water exposure. The XC-course will be open as well for those who want to try a few jumps.

Update from the Obstacles! We've had a wonderful turn-out over the last 5 days. Many riders returned for additional practice during the week - even with those rising temperatures! Thank you all for coming and working with your horses and mules(!), from yearlings to seniors, in our big "playground for horses". For us it is always interesting to see and study their behavior, and create new ideas for next year's event.
In Sunday's little competition Bethany Roberts took both - 1st and 2nd place, riding two different horses (Simba 54 + Sarge 52 out of 60), followed by Margery 48/60, Vaughn 45 and Kelly 44.
Many riders used the chance to go after the obstacles on a brief trail ride through the property. On Sept 20 we'll be hosting an Open Trail Day, giving you the chance to explore our extended trail net - including the XC course - on your own. Please mark your calendars. Registration will be open soon.

We had a great start into the 2026 Obstacle Challenge Week on Saturday with almost 30 riders who tried our challenges. For the first time we offered a little competition among some of the participants, and saw some amazing results! Here are the scores (out of 60): Colleen 56, Dr. Q 55, Terry 45, Kelly (in hand) 43, Dana 42, Chelsey 33. Congratulations to all!
But most important: You all had fun during this beautiful day, enjoyed the farm, and could take a good learning experience for you and your horse home.

OBSTACLE CHALLENGE WEEK 2026 - starting Sat 8/29. Join us for this annual event!
A variety of more than 20 carefully designed obstacles will be set up in a fenced-in area close to the Stable Center. There are choices for all levels of experience, among them favorites from previous years as well as some exciting new ones. Explore, desensitize and build confidence together with your horse! Hand-held horses are welcome, too.
The obstacle course will be open Sat-Wed, 9am-3pm daily.
Pre-registration is recommended. The entry fee for Sat/Sun is $45 ($60 as walk-in). Return visits for additional practice during the week are $20/day. Book them on site during your visit on the weekend.
For those who like to compete: At 2pm on both days of the weekend we'll offer a judged run over 6 obstacles.
Non-riding guests are welcome, and can watch from our shady viewing area.
