A little surface rust? You notice it, take care of it and probably donโt think much more about it.
But leave it there long enough and eventually that rust starts eating away at the metal. Then one day youโre not looking at a little surface rust anymoreโฆ

Thrush really isnโt all that different.
So how do you know if youโre looking at a little โsurface rustโ or something thatโs becoming a bigger problem?

In a milder case, the frog should still have some good firmness to itโthink about the feel of an eraser.
When that frog starts losing its firmness and youโre finding soft, deteriorating areas, thatโs when weโre dealing with something much more serious. At that point, itโs not just sitting on the surface anymore.
Catch it early and it can be pretty simple to deal with. Let it keep working its way deeper into the frog and central sulcus, and now weโre talking damaged tissue, soreness and potentially compromising a whole lot more within that foot.

Deep, tight cracks can hold moisture and debris and create the low-oxygen environment associated with thrush, even when everything around us is dry as a bone.
Left unaddressed, a serious case can become painful and contribute to ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ and eventually ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐.
