Never stop using protocol and etiquette in your karate classes.
Preparation for karate training starts before entering the dojo. It is essential to properly groom and remove any accessories such as earrings and bracelets, as well as keep nails unpainted. Inside the dojo, we are all equal and the only distinction allowed is the color of the belt.
Karate gi should be used correctly and the belt should be fastened symmetrically, without one end being longer than the other. Upon arriving at the dojo, it is necessary to take off your shoes and greet before entering the tatami, placing orderly the shoes with the tips outside. If the teacher is already present, permission should be asked to enter only with your presence, without the need for the word wait for your permission. If the teacher arrives later, he should be greeted (King) as a sign of respect.
Students position themselves on the tatami according to their level, placing the highest ranks in front and the lower ranks behind or in middle positions so that they can observe and learn from the most advanced. Those at the front should be exemplary during training. If a student does not feel in the best conditions to train with all his energy, he should sit in the back rows.
Unlike western education, students should not ask the teacher directly their doubts. It will be the teacher who, if he deems it necessary, will impart the knowledge he deems appropriate. Therefore, students should exhibit humility and wait for the teacher to decide to share his wisdom.
Students should prioritize the well-being of their peers above their own. When receiving explanations from the teacher, students in the front rows should ensure not to obstruct the view of others, moving away if necessary. During training, it is forbidden to speak unless the teacher allows it.
When using materials, they should be received with both hands to avoid misbehavior. When returning the material, it should be placed in an orderly manner and wave once it is done. Both the dojo and the equipment must be kept in good condition, as they are an essential part of the school.
When sitting at the direction of the teacher, you should never stretch your legs, as this is considered disrespectful. He should sit with his legs up. At the end of the training, mokuso will be performed, a meditation in which you sit on your knees with your spine straight and hands on each other. After the mokuso, you greet the teachers represented in images inside the dojo, the teacher present and among the peers.
This is how you will enter the wonderful world of KARATE.
