Tradition with Innovation.

After more than four decades of training and nearly three decades of teaching, one conviction has only grown stronger:

Our responsibility is not to change karate.

Our responsibility is to faithfully steward it.

At Bushinkan Dojo, we do not innovate karate.

We innovate the stewardship of karate.

Those are two very different things.

The authentic standard of Kokusai Shotokan Rengokai has already been established through faithful men who dedicated their lives to preserving and passing it on. My responsibility is not to leave my fingerprint on the art. My responsibility is to leave the art intact for those who come after me.

Our lineage is not something we speak of casually.

From Gichin Funakoshi, to Masaki Sato, to Doug Chissem, to Jerry Offutt Hanshi—licensed under Masaki Sato and the late Soké Hirokazu Kanazawa—the standard has been faithfully entrusted from one generation to the next.

Now it is our turn to be faithful stewards.

That stewardship means preserving every bow with purpose.

Every kihon with precision.

Every kata with understanding.

Every kumite with discipline.

Every lesson with humility.

The techniques remain true.

The principles remain timeless.

The standard remains uncompromised.

Where we innovate is in how we communicate those timeless principles to today's generation—helping students understand not only how to perform a technique, but why it matters and how it shapes their character long after they leave the dojo.

Bushin was never intended to stay on the training floor.

It belongs in our homes.

Our businesses.

Our ministries.

Our schools.

Our communities.

Karate should produce more than capable martial artists.

It should develop men and women of character who demonstrate humility, discipline, courage, self-control, and servant leadership.

If Bushinkan Dojo is remembered long after I'm gone, I don't want it to be because we did something different.

I want it to be because we faithfully preserved what had been entrusted to us while continually improving how we taught it to the next generation.

The standard never changes.

Our stewardship should never stop improving.

That is Bushinkan.

Tradition at its Core.
Innovation in its Stewardship.
Excellence in its Standard.

Do your best until you know better. Then, do better.

That's not a destination.

It's a commitment.

Every lesson reveals another lesson. Every challenge develops another strength. Every summit becomes a checkpoint to the next climb.

I don't believe we ever truly arrive.

I believe we remain teachable.

Growth isn't about becoming better than everyone else.

It's about becoming a better steward of what God has entrusted to us today than we were yesterday.

Whether in business, martial arts, family, ministry, or leadership, the standard remains the same:

Learn.
Apply.
Refine.
Repeat.

That's how character is built. That's how leaders are developed. That's how legacy is established.

Repair. Protect. Build. Lead.
