Just a gym rat learning to manage - not medicate - my depression and sharing what works.

Seeing middle-aged guys showing up at the gym after years of putting family first always hits different. Many of them are there because they want to stay healthy for their kids and grandkids. That kind of priority and quiet determination deserves real respect. Keep showing up.

After five minutes using my friend Levin's medicine ball attachment on the rower, I tapped out. It requires more isometric forearm and chest strength than I have. Now I want one!

I decided to try my friend Levin's medicine ball attachment on the rower, and BOY does it work muscles I didn't know I had! It requires constant engagement of the chest to squeeze the sides of the ball. Not only that, but the grip strength involved set my forearms and the backs of my hands on fire. What a workout!

Let me be honest about my background. I work in IT, not fitness, and everything I share comes from personal experience with what helps my body and mind. If any of the content has been useful or resonated with you, a like, comment, or share means a lot.

I'm taking a break from gardening 🪴💨 and did 30 minutes of weighted rowing. I cannot believe just how much harder it feels. This session really pushed the limits of my determination, but I'm glad I was able to harness some inner strength to push through.

Most antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications were originally designed for short-term use to help stabilize people while they built healthier habits and worked with therapy. Over time, long-term prescriptions became common, often leading to complications such as treatment-resistant depression.

Finding the right support to address root causes through lifestyle and therapy instead of relying solely on medication is a much more sustainable path.

People often criticize me for holding the handles on the stair climber, but I have good reasons for doing so. When adding ankle weights for an extra challenge, a light grip helps maintain balance and safety. Using the built-in heart rate sensors also allows for better intensity control based on my actual effort level rather than guessing.

Extended fasts can be challenging, but a few smart strategies make it much more manageable. From timing your fast around the weekend to using light activity, electrolytes, and sugar-free options for flavor, these practical methods help reduce discomfort while supporting the process. Many people find them useful for pushing through.
